shadepaw adopts
Generational trauma train, all aboard!
Even before Shadepaw and Nightpaw came on the scene, their family was a mess: parents had favorites, sister was pitted against sister, and then the only peacekeeper in the immediate family died when Ridgeclan invaded Mistclan. If asked, all three siblings - Lizardtail, Yarrowflight, and Lightningstep - would say their father Shadestone's death was the catalyst for the unraveling of the family, as it left Dapplefang as the only one holding it all together... And not many like Dapplefang, however pureblooded they are or how well they served the clan before becoming a permaqueen and then an elder.
With an inevitability of the new moon rising and sun setting, Thrushleap offered Yarrowflight comfort at the loss of her beloved father and comfort turned to something more. Even knowing how it'd all end, the pair went forward; and when they were caught, when the going got truly tough? Yarrowlfight and Thrushleap abandoned not only their clan but their kits...
Click here for Shadepaw's bio! Please DM me if you're interest in anyone <3 I would, personally, love to see Nightpaw taken; if you want to take a peak at Dapplefang, the matriarch of the family, her NPC bio can be found here.
If a cat is open to a name change, it'll be listed on their description. (I tend to be more flexible about suffixes than prefixes, as the latter reflects colors, patterns and/or appearances I prefer). Images are suggestions and links to get a better look at the cat used are provided at the end of each adoptable's section; if you want to change the image, all I ask you run it by me first! Unless specifically noted, sex is open for each cat (if gender is open, it will also be noted). I also offer pre-plotting roles or ideas with some cats too, but those are merely suggestions as well.

NIGHTPAW | taken
Ironically, Shadepaw is the light to Nightpaw's shadow, the sun to his moon. He and Shadepaw are attached at the hip, having only had each other to rely from their relatively short lives. At the moment, the two littermates are definitely heading toward an unhealthy type of dependency on one another - the kind Nightpaw not only adknowledges but sees nothing wrong with, even to the exclusion of others: he promised Shadepaw to always be there for him and he intends to keep his word. There's nothing wrong with them sticking together, because life has proven many times that is the safest thing. He is the fiery tempered brother, quick to anger and unable to stand the injustices of the world... and his life is full of them. He is protective of Shadepaw but that is because he sees his sister as weak-willed and unable (and unwilling) to protect herself; he doesn't believe in trying to ignore the way their family mistreats them and instead takes on their cruelty head on, even if it gets him in trouble. While I want Shadepaw to grow and move past the two's poor upbringing and horrid family situation, learning to rely on the clan and her clanmates as well as trust them, that is not the fate Nightpaw has in store. Where Shadepaw gets better by finding his place in Ridgeclan, Nightpaw will only get worse in his efforts to prove himself to everyone: the typical one sibling moves towards the light and the other goes down a darker path. All the while the two are still very close, because they love each other, I also like the idea of a future where Nightpaw is fighting to keep Shadepaw to himself but also avenge both of them against the injustices of the world. LIZARDTAIL | open
No one was more betrayed by Thrushleap's infidelity than Lizardtail; after all the work she'd put in to convince on the clan's handsomer bachelors to settle down, including having kits, he just threw it all away... and for what, her ugly runty sister Yarrowflight? Maybe Lizardtail could have forgiven him - and her brother and his sister, too, for hiding it all from her - but then her sister had kits- Thrushleap's kits! It was horrible, just unacceptable... And then, as the two mistakes were weaning, the two just left Ridgeclan! Left her with three kits and two furballs that would forever be a reminder that her effort to have the perfect life was all for naught. Lizardtail is a feisty, strong-willed molly that takes too much after her mother Dapplefang. She has a bit of superiority complex, which has rubbed off on her own kits, especially in regard to Shadepaw and Nightpaw, and is a painful unkind perfectionist. She tried very hard to model her life after that of her mother: be a successful warrior, find a mate, have kits, and become a permaqueen until she was old enough to move to the elders' den; obviously, that plan as burned to ashes before her eyes and she is rather lost on what to do with her life now... (And is likely taking this vulnerable feeling out on others.) She is likely of the Mars mentality. Image here |
LIGHTNINGSTEP | open
Lightningstep's parents had favorites... And he was not either of them. No, Shadestone preferred to coddle on Yarrowflight and Dapplefang doted on Lizardtail. Lightningstep was left to his own devices from a young age, with only his sister Yarrowflight giving him the time of day. For better or for worse, this cause Lightingstep to grow into an awkward, difficult cat that was better at slinking around unnoticed that connecting with his own ages, much less anyone younger than him. He's likely had an apprentice or two that he either trained poorly or had to give to another warrior to continue teaching. He, contrary to Lizardtail's opinion, did not know about Yarrowflight's dalliances with Thrushleap - but when the two's cheating came to light upon Shadepaw and Nightpaw's birth, he made the selfish decision to stay out of it. And when the two left Ridgeclan and their kits? He suddenly saw himself in Shadepaw and Nightpaw's treatment, he saw his own unfavored status. And so he's tried to just... be around, for if they need him (though, because of his poor communication skills, neither knew); and, now that they're apprentices, he's trying to be present for the two. It's just... hard, to connect with such young cats, especially when Shadepaw looks so similar to Yarrowflight... (He could be a possible Pluto cat) Image here |
BLAZEPAW | open
Despite being an avid Mama's Girl and cohort of Thornpaw, Blazepaw is very open-ended; she dislikes her cousins/half-siblings mainly because her mother poisoned the well of familial love by blaming Thrushleap's abandonment on Shadepaw and Nightpaw. She likely seeks validation from others, especially adults, to fill the void her father left in her life. However, as she ages and grows, who knows what will happen to her! (She likely takes after her mother as a Mars cat) Image here |
CRAGPAW | taken
Of all the kits, Thornpaw was the one most attached to his father - though his memories of the tom are blurry at best, his mother has reinforced the idea that he and Thrushleap were very close; this, in turn, has made him an avid hater of Shadepaw and Nightpaw, drinking his mother's Kool-Aid regarding his father's abandonment being the pair's fault. He has a bit of mean girl streak, but that may be a protective measure for a hurt, vulnerable young tom. He is Dapplefang's favorite, too, so perhaps he feels pressure from his perfectionist, "image is everything" grandparent too. Otherwise, he's rather open-ended and still growing up. He and Blazepaw are close, often feeding off each other. Image here |
GRAYPAW | ipsum
Silverpaw is a good-looking tom and they know it - even as an apprentice, they're quite the heart-breaker, and probably lazy to boot ("I'm too pretty to do work" kind of vibes). Like Dapplefang, they're very image conscience - both in the physical and social sense of the word; as such, they find their cousins/half-siblings a stain on the family's good name and tries their level best to act like Shadepaw and Nightpaw simply don't exist. They're likely very vain and probably think themself above it all - "it" being the percieved immaturity of both them and their agemates/denmates. Very open-ended other than those suggestions and still has some growing to do. Image here |
SLEETFUR | open
Sleetfur loved her brother Thrushleap - honestly, she did. He was lovable kind of rogue that was impossible to hate... And she honestly thought he'd simply be a perpetual bachelor, perhaps siring a litter or two on the side for a couple here or there that were unable to, but otherwise single until the day he died; after all, the two of them were both commitment-phobes. But then Lizardtail - fiery, fiesty, "never takes no for an answer" Lizardtail - decided she wanted him as a mate and everything went to shit. Thrushleap let himself get hooked on the feeling of being wanted and then knocked the molly up before Sleetfur could talk him out of the whole idea; then, dearest nosy Dapplefang cut in, and the two were mates faster than she could blink. And, as soon as her beloved little niblings were born? Sleetfur found him running around with Lizardtail's guly duckling of a sister, Yarrowflight; apparently, after Shadestone's death, the two had gotten all cozy like. Well, Sleetfur put her foot down: Thrushleap needed to break it off with both the she-cats. His commitment issues did not excuse his horrible, cheating behaviour (the same of which happened to their own dad, so imagine Sleetfur's angry displeasure) and he needed to get his shitty act straight... But, no, instead, Yarrowflight had his kits too. And then both of them ran away from the shitstorm they'd stirred up, leaving those poor kits to deal with the fall-out... And Sleetfur? Well, she tried to be there for the two, but Lizardtail hardly ever set foot in the nursery after finding out she'd known about Thrushleap's infidelity. She's trying to make it up to the two now that they're apprentices, especially after Nightpaw got in trouble, but whenever you look at them you see your brother... (Aside from that history blurb, Sleetfur is rather open-ended! Likely could be a Uranus or Pluto type of cat) Image here |
