appearance
A tall gray and white tabby she-cat with pale green eyes.
With long legs and pale grey fur, Rainstorm stands out amongst her clan. At first glance one might assume she'd belong to Mistclan instead. But while she looks less hardy than her peers, a few Ridgeclan characteristics stand out. Her tabby markings and thick, double coat help her blend into the rocky landscape and stay safe from the cold winds.
Her eyes are a piercing pale green. Her paws, chest, and chin are all white, though often accidentally stained green from her herbs.

description
In the early days of green-leaf Embershade gave birth to two kittens. Both pale and grey. The smallest of the two quickly fell ill, and both were rushed to the medicine cat den. While the smallest, Stormkit, continued to battle illness, his sister Rainkit stayed healthy.
While normally Rainkit would've been sent back to the nursery with her mother, Embershade had quietly returned to her warrior duties. She and her mate rarely visited the kits. While other queens would help nurse the siblings, fear that either kit would bring the sickness to their own children meant Rainkit rarely stayed in the nursery. The medicine cat, Sootwhisker, let her stay in his den with her brother.
Bored and curious, Rainkit pestered Sootwhisker about anything and everything. What herbs he used, why he used them, when her brother would get better. In time she grew fascinated with how plants could keep a cat alive and started memorizing their names.
Stormkit slowly recovered, his bouts of sickness grew fewer and further between. Rainkit did her best to help, making sure he did his exercises and ate his medicine. But many in the clan wondered if he was bound to be the next medicine cat apprentice or risk being an elder.
One day Rainkit asked Sootwhisker to take her on as his apprentice. He refused, her endless questions and energy had already gotten on his nerves.
Despite her arguments Rainkit became Rainpaw, a warrior apprentice. Even worse, Stormkit was held back indefinitely. An experienced warrior and mentor Owlfeather soon realized he was in over his head with Rainpaw.
At any given chance Rainpaw ditched her training to beg to be Sootwhisker's apprentice instead. She struggled to hunt and track, far more interested in the plants next to mice than the critter itself.
Fight training was no better, she held herself back out of fear of hurting anyone else. The only time she didn't was when she heard some apprentices insult her brother, and attacked immediately. It didn't last long, she was quickly defeated and Owlfeather dragged her away as she yowled insults at the others.
Within half a moon she'd shown no proficiency with warrior training and even Owlfeather suggested she be allowed to make the switch to medicine cat training.
A heavy late season rainstorm nearly flooded the medicine cat den. No herbs were lost and it proved nothing more than an annoyance. But Sootwhisker wondered if the flood was a sign from Starclan. The rain had forced itself into the den, just like Rainpaw attempted to do.
A few days later Rainpaw got her wish. Her warrior training ended, and Owlfeather was reassigned her brother Stormpaw.
Rainpaw threw herself into her studies. Every waking moment she devoted towards gaining as much knowledge as possible. She proved a capable and intelligent young cat.
With time Sootwhisker and Rainpaw grew to tolerate each other. He learned what tasks would keep her busy and quiet, and she learned to occasionally give him space.
But soon tension grew in the clan. Wolfstar's version of Ridgeclan was taking form, getting ready for war. Sootwhisker stood by his leader's side. The moonpool lay in the paws of heretics. Something had to be done.
Sootwhisker put an increased emphasis learning how to heal battle wounds. Rainpaw ignored the sinking feeling in her stomach and took the chance to learn more.
Tensions continued to rise. Rainpaw ignored it, focused on her training and time with her brother. He is named Stormleap, a proud guardian.
A moon later the battle occurs.
Everything became chaotic. Cats were badly hurt, they'd lost to the combined might of the other two clans. Stormleap had made it out relatively unharmed, but there was no time for Rainpaw to celebrate. There were far too many injured cats to tend to.
Sootwhisker and Rainpaw did their best, but lives were lost. Wolfstar died. Then Spiderstorm stepped down from his position as deputy. Then the other clans encouraged the end of the oracle role, and Orchidgaze stepped down. Sootwhisker is the only clan higher up to not lose his role after the battle.
A moon after the battle Sootwhisker pulled Rainpaw aside. He insisted it was time for her to be named, she'd proved herself after the battle.
Starclan accepts her and names her Rainstorm. For a few moments she's thrilled. Finally she was a medicine cat. Together she and Sootwhisker would lead the clan through these harsh times.
Then Sootwhisker steps down. He insists he'll be there to help if needed, but that he cannot continue his role after all that happened. At a mere 18 moons old Rainstorm is the sole medicine cat of a clan in turmoil.
The following moons were not easy on Rainstorm. While knowledgeable and skilled in herbs and healing, there were aspects of being a medicine cat she was not prepared for. She had to be both healer and spiritual guide to a deeply hurt clan. That required nuance that she struggled with.
Now six moons from the battle Rainstorm still struggles with her role. She'll be the first to admit her bedside manner needs improvement. When she works she speaks aloud, with no filter. She'll tell a cat they're bleeding out while patching them up, that the herbs will taste horrid, and that this will hurt a lot.
In addition the medicine cat's den is always half a step from disarray. Herbs and medicines are plenty stocked but arranged in a way that makes sense to almost no one, including Rainstorm. But there's no time to organize, always something else to do.
