Ravenheart walked the length of the mountain pass border every now and then - not at all because she hoped to see someone who she cared about that resided on the other side of it now, but because she was paranoid a Kingdom cat would trespass. She wasn’t very fond of The Kingdom and she was one of many RidgeClan cats who opposed the idea of building an alliance with the new group. The creation of The Kingdom has become some of the most popular news in the valley, diverting everyone’s attention away from the tension between MistClan and RidgeClan - but Ravenheart wasn’t so easily distracted. MistClan remained RidgeClan’s biggest threat and it seemed like she was the only one who could see it. Ravenheart wasn’t mouse-brained. She knew that although MistClan was RidgeClan’s biggest threat, that didn’t mean The Kingdom wasn’t a threat at all. That’s why she found herself at the mountain pass boundary this cold and snowy evening. It wasn’t an ideal night for a casual patrol, especially for someone like herself. Her leg was acting up today with brief moments of sharp pain shooting up her limb at random. It happened sometimes, but it was something she’d never get used to. She’d gone a few hours without it happening, so she’d thought it’d be okay to leave camp and patrol the boundary, but as Ravenheart padded along the mountain pass, an intense stabbing sensation erupted in her leg and she froze in place, muscles instinctively tensing and whimpering quietly. As the pain slowly subsided, Ravenheart forced herself to move to the edge of the mountain pass where there was a small cave beneath a wall of rock. She crouched in the narrow hollow, waiting for the pain to go away and gradually getting upset when it didn’t go away as quickly as she’d like. Once the agony was over, Ravenheart growled in frustration and lashed out at the ground, unsheathed claws scraping against stone and dirt. For a few heartbeats, she breathed heavily, angrily, and wished she’d lost her leg in the war instead of having to endure a life of excruciating pain. And then she felt foolish. What would attacking the earth accomplish? Before she could give it much more thought, the sound of a pebble tumbling down a slope caused her heart to skip a beat. Ravenheart stared in the direction of the noise and prepared to defend herself. “ Hello? Who’s there?”

#s://i~pinimg~com/564x/14/86/41/148641561547ccbc1908d62a5a29230d~jpg littlehawk, Life in the Kingdom was strange. New cats arrived from various backgrounds, the little groups within the larger were still forming their own identities and ideologies. Some cats were dropping their suffixes, taking on rogue like names. Almost nothing was set in stone. It was perfect. Chaos was a breath of fresh air. Cold air, but air nonetheless. Yet while he enjoyed the newness of it all, there was a lingering bitterness in his heart. Ridgeclan stood, less shaken than he'd hoped. Littlehawk stalked the border of his old home, close enough to see it, but far enough away that he could move from eyesight depending on who walked by. Snow settled on his pelt no matter how much he moved or shook. When would the weather break and newleaf finally return? As he moved through the snow, fresh tracks caught his attention. Cat prints, originating in Ridgeclan and headed to a little cave in the mountain pass. What did he have here? A lost clan cat? Were they on patrol or someone new looking to join? The tom skidded down the slop, following the tracks. He didn't bother to hide his approach. A voice called out, vaguely familiar. But it wasn't until he spotted that white-and-black coat that Littlehawk realized just who was here. " Well, well, well. What do we have here? A lost little bird stuck in the snow. Are you all alone Ravenheart? Is daddy not here to help out?" He cooed in a mocking tone. Wolfstar's fresh and blood right here before him. She even looked like him, that coat of hers. " What a shame, how lucky you are no one cruel is here to take advantage of this sad sight." He stayed just out of reach of the she-cat, hoping she'd have a fun reaction to his taunts. It wasn't like she posed any real threat. He hunted hawks, and she was a young cat weakened and hiding from a storm. At best she'd give some fun insults of her own and they'd go their own ways. Which was far more fun than anything else he'd find along the border.

What bad luck Ravenheart had for it to be Littlehawk who stumbled upon her in her weakened state. She’d never been friendly with the tom, never been fond of him, and he’d become even more unlikeable to her after he’d abandoned RidgeClan and joined The Kingdom. In her opinion, those who had betrayed RidgeClan couldn’t be forgiven and they shouldn’t be forgiven. What they’d done was deplorable and if the clans had any sense at all, they’d never consider The Kingdom an equal. But Ravenheart hadn’t liked Littlehawk even before the creation of The Kingdom. He was too reckless, too consumed by the thrill of foolish behavior. As Littlehawk spoke, Ravenheart bristled and her anger only increased tenfold when he mentioned her father. She thought it was quite callous to bring up Wolfstar to her in that derisive tone of his, but she should’ve expected Littlehawk to stoop low like that. While many thought of Wolfstar as a monster, he was still her dad. Littlehawk continued, and just her luck, a sharp pain shot up her leg as he called her a sad sight, her face twisting in a pained grimace. Fighting through the stabbing sensation in her leg, she gasped between heavy breaths, “ Fuck you.” A small whimper escaped her, which she quickly tried to cover up with another reply, “ Did you come up with that all on your own?” “ I’ve heard better,” she sighed as the pain subsided. With a flick of her tail-tip, Ravenheart growled, “ Keep it up, though, and you’ll end up in The Dark Forest. Oh, wait, you turned your back on your clan and your beliefs as soon as the chance presented itself to you. Did you ever care or were you always a fickle coward?” She sat up, wincing as a smaller burst of pain erupted in her limb, but it didn’t hurt nearly as much as last time, so her reaction was minimal. Ravenheart glared at Littlehawk and went on, “ To so easily betray everyone who’s ever cared about you is cruel. Don’t pretend you aren’t.” Ravenheart felt herself getting heated as she spoke and she started trying to tame the raging fire within her.

#s://i~pinimg~com/564x/14/86/41/148641561547ccbc1908d62a5a29230d~jpg littlehawk, Ah what a fun little thrill, watching Ravenheart's reaction, hearing her words. A shame the best response she had was a curse. Not as fun as it could've been. " Oh I think it was rather clever, don't you? Certainly more clever than anything you could think of." He didn't particularly care if she'd heard worse, it clearly got under her skin. At least a little. And what more could he ask for? " Awww, how cute. Why are you so concerned where all of us smart enough to leave will end up? Worried your daddy won't have enough company without us? Who else would up there but a monster like him?" He didn't care about either Starclan or the dark forest, but it would be so fun to use her beliefs against her. " Maybe you'll join him soon, with that little leg of yours this mountain is so... treacherous." Venom and revelry flowed from his words. He was somewhere between anger at seeing her and joy at getting to mess with her. Somehow the two didn't contradict each other. " Oh dear, I think a truly cruel cat would've sent you to your father by now. In comparison I'm downright kind. Just my presence makes you safer. What if a predator came along with you in this state? Isn't nice to have someone between you and the big scary world?" Cruel were the cats who perpetuated Wolfstar's words, ignoring all the lives they had taken. He didn't care if someone like her found him cruel. Nor did he intent to live up to his veiled threats, and he doubted she did either. For all their talk of sending each other to the dark forest, this was a horrible place to fight. In the snow their blood would attract too much attention, there were too many hungry mouths on this mountain to justify a true spat.

Littlehawk was practically asking for a fight. The way he kept bringing up Ravenheart’s father, insulting him, was unforgivable in her eyes. A majority of the valley thought Wolfstar had been wrong for trying to claim the Mooncave, so when he died and they couldn’t take out their anger on him, they turned on his kin. Her littermates seemed ashamed of who their father was, but Ravenheart was proud. Wolfstar fought for what he believed in, after all, and she couldn’t find it within herself to fault him for that. To hear someone call her dad a monster… Well, it only fueled the fire in her heart. The Kingdom cat sounded so happy to spit callous words in Ravenheart’s direction, but she could also detect the animosity in his tone. He used to call himself a warrior, but warriors had honor and Littlehawk had none. She scowled as he went on, mentioning her father again, how he was in The Dark Forest, and her tail lashed with barely-contained anger. As he concluded, she had to fight the urge to strike him. Littlehawk’s face was just so annoying to look at and his voice was especially infuriating. “ I can take care of myself,” Ravenheart snarled, narrowing her eyes into a sharp glare. “ I don’t need you. I got this far by myself, didn’t I?” She tilted her head slightly and though her glare never wavered, the flames in her eyes dulled a little. “ You keep bringing up Wolfstar,” Ravenheart started. “ Obsessed, it seems. Maybe it's time to move on?” It did bother her, how he spoke about her dad, but she was trying not to show it. However, she wasn’t very good at hiding it, her body language and expression giving her away. “ If you have a problem with me, then talk about the issue with me. Don’t bring my father into this. And if it’s Wolfstar you have a problem with, don’t take it out on me. You’re a grown cat, aren’t you? Deal with it yourself.”

#s://i~pinimg~com/564x/14/86/41/148641561547ccbc1908d62a5a29230d~jpg littlehawk, “ I can take care of myself.” Littlehawk tutted at her words like a queen scolding a misbehaving kit. Her little temper tantrum was cute. And he didn't doubt that eventually she'd find her way back to camo. But it was fun watching a grown cat arguing like an apprentice who'd just learned to hunt a mouse and decided they were self sufficent. " Time to move on?" Littlehawk felt a genuine spart of anger at that suggestion. After all Wolfstar had done, there was no moving on. As far as he was concerned that monster's name should forever go down as a warning, a curse. Littlehawk snarled, moving in a little closer. It was clear his words hurt her, though after that remark it didn't feel like enough. " My brother and mother are dead because of your father. I'll move on once your mother and one of your siblings are in the ground with them. It's only fair, after all." Elmstrike had been permanently wounded in the war, but so had Ravenheart. That was fair enough. Though even if Wolfstar's line died, it wouldn't repair the damage he'd caused. Nothing ever would. Nothing ever could. " He might be dead, but as long as his ideas live, war will follow. Death will follow. Will you die for your father's beliefs? If that's your plan, do it soon, make it easier for everyone in this valley to move on."

“ Time to move on?” Littlehawk repeated Ravenheart’s words, his anger noticeably intensifying. Satisfaction surged through her as she finally got the reaction she wanted from the Kingdom cat. He’d spent the entire conversation piercing her heart with his claws, twisting them deeper and deeper, and she thought it was about time she gave it right back to him. Her rage dissipated as Littlehawk’s increased, like he’d drawn the intense emotion from her, taking it for himself. Ravenheart smiled smugly for a moment - a very brief moment. Her complacent expression disappeared in a heartbeat as Littlehawk took a step in her direction. Had he reached his breaking point? Was this the part where he lashed out at her? She eyed him warily, expecting the small tom to strike her - but the blow she was waiting for never came. At least, it didn’t come in the way she thought it would. Instead of physically swiping at her, Littlehawk attacked verbally. Ravenheart could only stare at him through wide eyes as he ranted, blaming his brother and mother’s deaths on Wolfstar and his war. It was his next statement that caused a roaring flame to return to her amber eyes. “ I’ll move on once your mother and one of your siblings are in the ground with them.” It sounded an awful lot like a threat. Ravenheart lowered her head and glared up at him, her unsheathed claws digging into the ground, but she imagined it was Littlehawk’s pelt she was sinking them into. As Littlehawk concluded, silence settled over them for a couple of heartbeats as she fought the urge to launch herself at him. She ultimately decided to remain where she stood. With her leg acting up, she wouldn’t stand a chance. “ Strong words from someone who kept the name granted to him by Wolfstar himself,” Ravenheart said, sounding emotionless. “ Your brother and mother made their decisions, and died like real warriors.“ She paused to take a deep, calming breath. ” And if I die fighting for my father’s mission, at least I know I’ll have given my life for a good cause.” Ravenheart’s tone became cold again as she continued, “ But if I ever catch you near my family, you’ll regret it.”

#s://i~pinimg~com/564x/14/86/41/148641561547ccbc1908d62a5a29230d~jpg littlehawk, This little conversation grew less and less fun and more and more infuriating the more it dragged on. Anger bloomed in his chest, and based on how Ravenheart dug her claws into the ground, it was within her as well. Part of him wanted to swipe at her, end this spat of a conversation with a proper fight. He'd win, he didn't doubt that. But it wouldn't be for the best to walk home in this cold covered in blood. Not if he wanted to make it back in once piece. “ Strong words from someone who kept the name granted to him by Wolfstar himself.” Littlehawk's fur puffed up in anger. He snarled, tail lashing as she spoke, seeming calmer and calmer as he grew angrier. Rude. " My brother and mother had no more choice in their fate than I did in my name. Your father is to blame. If he'd kept his stupidity to himself they'd be alive. Every cat in the clans who died in that fight owes your father for their deaths." Littlehawk spat the words, venom and rage dripping from each word. His head spun with anger., all he wanted was to see Ravenheart upset once more. " He didn't end up in Starclan, but whoever killed him will." His claws unsheathed, sinking into the ground below. " If you and your family are smart you'll stick clear of the borders. With how much blood your father spilled every cat in valley must want revenge." He certainly did.

“ My brother and mother had no more choice in their fate than I did in my name.” Ravenheart rolled her eyes at Littlehawk’s attempt to defend his decision to keep the warrior name given to him by Wolfstar. Oh, please, she thought. Is he trying to convince me or himself? Everyone knew that The Kingdom was a fresh start and many who left the clans behind to join the new group traded not just their homes, but their names as well. If Littlehawk loathed Wolfstar so much, then why hasn’t he changed his name yet? Ravenheart couldn’t think of a single reason why he had yet to do so. “ Your father is to blame. If he’d kept his stupidity to himself they’d be alive.“ Ravenheart felt her anger increasing again - only slightly, though - as he called her father stupid. These erratic emotions of hers were getting too exhausting to endure and she wasn’t sure how much longer she was willing to put up with Littlehawk’s callousness. He kept bringing up his brother and mother, as if she’d suddenly gain sympathy for him. His kin had died for their clan like true warriors and he couldn’t muster even an ounce of pride for the valor they’d shown? How disrespectful to his loved ones. Littlehawk went on, ” Every cat in the clans who died in that fight owes your father for their deaths.” They all died fighting for their clans, which was an honorable way to go and also how every loyal warrior wanted to die. Ravenheart would gladly give her life for her clan, but Littlehawk, who’d abandoned RidgeClan to join a group of traitors and outsiders, wouldn’t understand. Littlehawk’s tone was harsh with fury and she could see the raging flames in his eyes, but she managed to maintain a neutral expression. It was his following statement that finally got to Ravenheart. “ He didn’t end up in StarClan, but whoever killed him will.” She barely heard what he said next, his voice growing distant in her ears, replaced by the pounding of her heart. Littlehawk had implied earlier that Wolfstar was in The Dark Forest, but for him to directly say her father hadn’t made it to StarClan was beyond upsetting. Ravenheart trembled with barely-contained wrath, her expression became ice-cold, and she finally acted on her anger. A low growl rumbled deep within her throat and then she was gliding across the rocky ground in Littlehawk’s direction, claws outstretched. That’s when a lightning bolt of pain shot up her leg and she screeched in agony before tumbling to the ground at his paws, quivering as a stinging sensation traveled up her limb and to the rest of her body. Whether she liked it or not - she didn’t - Ravenheart was completely at Littlehawk’s mercy.

#s://i~pinimg~com/564x/14/86/41/148641561547ccbc1908d62a5a29230d~jpg littlehawk, This time Ravenheart didn't respond with words, but with action. The she-cat dared to growl at him, to launch herself at him. But whatever force it may be, Starclan, fate, luck, intervened, laying her low before him with the injury she'd earned fighting her father's war. She was at his mercy. He could kill her. Easily. It was so tempting. She looked so much like her father, if he tried hard enough he could even pretend it was him. There was so much rage within him, with nowhere to go. He walked over, a cruel grin on his face. A single paw, claws extended, placed on her throat. Right now there was no pressure, no blood, but he held her life right under him. Her heartbeat was against his paw pads. " Remember, every second of the rest of your life, you owe them to me." He pushed down just a little, just enough for his claws to break skin, for a few drops of blood to flow. It was so tempting, but she'd been right about one thing. He needed to change his name, change who he was. " The only reason your heart is beating is that I'm letting you." Littlehawk removed the paw, dizzy with power and rage only slightly dulled by the tiniest bit of conscience he had that was fighting against the urge to murder someone in cold blood. He needed to walk away, or someone would die tonight. Taking a shaky breath he turned, walking back up the trail. But he couldn't resist one last jab. " Good luck getting down the mountain by yourself. It's dreadfully dangerous out there for someone so weak."

As Ravenheart writhed on the ground, fighting a losing battle against the pain pulsing in her leg, Littlehawk fought a war of his own - to kill or not to kill. She was unaware of his internal conflict, too distracted by her suffering to think - let alone think about what he was doing. She didn’t even notice when he approached her, a devilish grin curling the corners of his lips upward. However, Ravenheart became totally aware of her surroundings when a paw was placed firmly against her throat. Not hard enough to cause any pain, but hard enough to let her know the threat was there. Her panting quieted to whimpering and she stiffened, her stillness only interrupted by the occasional tremble whenever a particularly strong sting ran up her limb. “ Remember, every second of the rest of your life, you owe them to me.” A chill crept along Ravenheart’s spine. She was furious at herself for putting herself in such a dangerous situation, but she was even angrier at Littlehawk, who had taken advantage of her vulnerability. More than that, though, she was terrified that he might be prepared to take her life now. He’d been so obviously upset. What if his rage had blinded him? What if his personal vendetta meant more to him than peace between their two groups? She gasped as he drew a few drops of blood, more afraid than hurt by his actions. “ The only reason your heart is beating is that I’m letting it.” That’s when Littlehawk’s paw lifted off her neck and Ravenheart released the breath she hadn’t realized she’d been holding. Infuriating how the pain in her leg faded just as Littlehawk’s removed his paw. She remained frozen in place until Littlehawk was far enough away that she felt comfortable rolling onto her belly. Ravenheart’s eyes locked onto the ground just before her where a drop of blood had turned the snow red, but she looked up to meet Littlehawk’s gaze as he spoke. “ Good luck getting down the mountain by yourself. It’s dreadfully dangerous out there for someone so weak.” She grit her teeth and shook with anger as Littlehawk walked away, disappearing behind a cluster of rocks. Unable to contain her rage any longer, Ravenheart screeched and struck a nearby pebble, sending it down the mountain.
