The air was calm in the woods as the bright red she-cat padded through the winding trees. A light snow had begun, snowflakes settling gently atop her coat until she was thoroughly speckled with white. She had a soft smile on her face as she tipped her head backwards, gazing up at the falling crystals. There was beauty to be found in leaf-bare. Despite the harsh conditions of the cold season and the unfortunate lack of prey, there was still an experience to be had.
As she was thinking, a small squirrel darted across her path a few tail-lengths ahead. Quickly, she sprang forward and pursued it, not hesitating to throw herself up the narrow trunk of a tree as it swiftly clambered up. Digging her claws into the frosty bark, she did her best to gain on it, but the squirrel had been too quick. Perhaps a MistClan cat could've made the catch, with their tendency to hunt in trees, but she was more adept in open land. Redberry sighed as she clung to the bark, looking out over the snowy woodland to get a sense of what was waiting for her from above.
I wish Rosethorn was here...

#s://i~pinimg~com/564x/92/fe/85/92fe854f6e0a0e1d27cdf3bce4b7bda9~jpg mothflight, The forests of Prairieclan were nice. Enclosed. It felt safe, reminded her of the forests in her old home. There were differences between the two, of course, but it was a small comfort. And she needed small comforts right now. Her mother had left Ridgeclan, off to join the Kingdom. And Mothflight was here, unsure how to feel or what to do. But there was work to do! Work to keep distracted with. The forests weren't just pretty, there was prey to be found here. Mothflight slunk through the trees, weaving between their trunks, searching for food. The scent of another Prairieclan cat caught her attention, and she spotted a red pelt as someone chased a squirrel up a tree. For a heartbeat, Mothflight was scared it was Rosethorn, but after a moment she realized this was Redberry. The sisters looked similar, though from what she knew their personalities were not. Mothlight stepped out from the trees and approached. " Tricky aren't they? Squirrels that is. Not the easiest to catch." She gave a sympathetic smile, she'd missed her share of prey while adjusting to her new home and its lands.

Redberry twitched in surprise as a voice echoed behind her. "Tricky aren't they?" She would turn to see the fluffy brown figure of Mothflight approaching her, her body language friendly. The she-cat waved her tail in greeting as she descended from the tree, landing in the powdery snow. "Yes, they're quite quick up the trees." she agreed, whiskers twitching. Mothflight wasn't a native born PrairieClan cat, she was a runaway from RidgeClan. Though plenty of cats were wary of admitting strangers, Redberry believed everyone deserved a chance. And if PrairieClan seemed like a more suitable home for someone, why shouldn't they be allowed in? Rosethorn would beg to differ - she had no love for Mothflight. Redberry was much more patient than her sister.
"You're probably much better at catching them," she mewed in a polite tone. She approached the other cat with a confident and regal posture, but her eyes glittered with friendliness. "Perhaps you'd like to join me? I'm afraid these woods will be filled with squirrels that I won't be able to catch." The red molly would try to maneuver so she was standing beside the other she-cat, nodding toward the path ahead. What was the harm in trying to make a new friend? Besides Rosethorn, she hardly had any cats she could call a close friend.

#s://i~pinimg~com/564x/92/fe/85/92fe854f6e0a0e1d27cdf3bce4b7bda9~jpg mothflight, Mothflight watched as Redberry approached, seemingly friendly. Not all in Prairieclan were welcoming or kind. It was nice to have a conversation once in a while where the other cat didn't look at her as a potential spy or threat. " Ah, well, I did catch my share of squirrels back..." She caught herself before saying back in Ridgeclan. " ... anyway there are tricks to getting them. It's easier with two of us, if we're on either side of it chances are one of us can get it." How nice, another cat willingly offering to hunt with her. Mothflight smiled, though anxiety prickled at her pelt. She was used to stares and distrust, kindness was harder to react to. But maybe this would be good! Maybe she could finally have a friend here, or at least a friendly acquaintance. Mothflight wasn't quite used to leading in hunts, but Redberry nodded for her to take lead. She slunk forward, keeping close to the trees. Hopefully her brown stripped coat would blend in, even if her companion's red might stand out. She scented, searching for squirrel. Or anything. Any prey would do. " Do you come here often? To hunt, I mean. It's not the most popular spot." Prairieclan cats seemed to prefer the open fields to the enclosed woods. But then again most of their land was open, they were raised and trained to be out there, not amongst the trees.

She noticed Mothflight's hesitancy to speak of her original clan, but gave no indication. Perhaps the she-cat thought she would bristle and hiss at its mention as others might...or maybe it was tough to recall her past. Redberry nodded thoughtfully as the brown molly would enlighten her on a method for catching squirrels. "It's easier with two of us, if we're on either side of it chances are one of us can get it." Her seafoam gaze twinkled in recognition of the tactic. "Yes, we practice similar techniques with young apprentices who are not yet quick enough to chase after a rabbit." she informed her, padding forward as Mothflight took the lead.
Redberry glanced at the other warrior as she asked if she frequented the woods, giving a soft shake of her pretty head in response. "Not really. I don't think many cats do, with us mainly being trained to work in open areas." She would scan the areas around them, looking for any signs of life. "But why put good land to waste just because of tradition? I imagine there's plenty of prey here that's been thriving because of that." Why put a good cat out just because she comes from somewhere else? She smiled at Mothflight as they continued walking. "How are you liking things here?" came her next gentle question, unafraid of a negative response. Redberry wanted cats to feel they could be honest with her. It was an important part of building a relationship with them.

Mothflight smiled. Even with as different as the clans and their prey were, some things were the same. It was reassuring, though she kept the thought to herself. Few took kindly to being compared to Ridgeclan. " That's a good point. It's a nice spot, quiet. Prey will appreciate that." She appreciated it as well. While her agility and speed made adjusting to the open fields easier than expected, psychologically it was a touch more tricky. It felt exposed at times. Especially after growing up constantly keeping an eye on the sky for ariel predators. Redberry's question caught her off guard. Was it a trick? To bait her into saying something stupid? Mothflight tried to push that instinctive fear aside. So far Redberry seemed perfectly kind. " It's nice here. Calmer. Less talk of... unpleasant things." " And most everyone's nice enough." And the ones that weren't, well she avoided them. Mothflight kept an eye out as she spoke, eventually spotting the familiar form of a squirrel. She pulled herself into a hunters crouch, motioning at the critter with her hear. Hopefully Redberry would notice, and they could try that technique out. " Up ahead."

She allowed Mothflight the floor to speak. Her ear twitched at the mention of "unpleasant things" being spoken about in her former clan. Was RidgeClan really that bad? How poorly they must have recovered after Wolfstar's demise so many moons ago. "Well, I'm glad you've found your home with us." she mewed quietly, looking to the other cat with a smile. Perhaps one day Mothflight would be willing to trust her with the details of her exodus from the forests.
Her bright gaze followed Mothflight's as she saw the she-cat all but snap to attention. Another squirrel was sniffing about around the trees, searching for food. Redberry gave a sharp nod as she split off from Mothflight. Lowering her body closer to the ground, she tried to make herself as invisible as possible - which was hard with her vibrantly hued pelt. Using the tree trunks as sheilds of sorts, she managed to get to the other side of the squirrel. If Mothflight gave chase now, it would certainly run right into her paws. She pressed herself to the ground, tense and focused as she waited to see what the other cat would do.

Prairieclan was where she resided now, but at times it hardly felt like home. But nowhere felt like home much anymore. Not for a while. The squirrel and the hunt quickly pulled her attention away from thoughts of home and beloning. Mothflight pressed herself low, steadying her breath and steps. Silence was key, the crunching of snow could alert her prey, send it running away from Redberry and her waiting claws. It was easy enough to catch sight of her clanmate's red pelt through the trees, she tried to angle herself so the squirrel would be startled her way. She watched as Redberry seemed to find a good stopping point. Now was the time. Slowly Mothflight crept forward towards the squirrel, waiting to get within striking distance. As she crept forward, she felt something under her paw. A twig, hidden by the snow. The snap pierced through the air, catching her prey's attention. Oops. Mothflight lunged forward, too far to catch the squirrel, but close enough to startle it. Thankfully she'd aimed right, and it fled in Redberry's direction. It was up to the other she-cat now. All she could do was hope.

Redberry's heart pounded in anticipation as she watched Mothflight move in. As the brown cat got closer, a crunch ripped through the quiet forest air. Her heart leapt into her throat as Mothflight sprang forward and drove the squirrel in her direction. The time was now.
The slender she-cat leapt toward the rodent, claws extended. Surprised, the squirrel would skid to a halt and squeal with terror, attempting to redirect. "Got you!" she couldn't help but shout as she hooked one claw in its tail and the other on its thigh. Before it had a chance to scramble out of her grasp, Redberry bit down hard on the back of its neck, shaking her head a bit to do more damage. Almost immediately, it would go limp. Licking the blood from her lips, she looked up at Mothflight with a triumphant smile. "What a great team we are." she purred. She hoped her clanmate didn't feel too bad for her mistake.
"Shall we return to camp or do you want to try for one more kill?" she asked, blinking warmly. There was nothing quite like the thrill of a successful hunt. She hoped Mothflight would be willing to continue their little session. She wanted to see what else she could learn about her.

#s://i~pinimg~com/564x/92/fe/85/92fe854f6e0a0e1d27cdf3bce4b7bda9~jpg mothflight, Mothflight watched, heart in her throat, as the squirrel raced towards Redberry. Would the she-cat catch it, or would they lose another precious meal to the safety of the trees? Thankfully Redberry was ready, and their prey laid dead at her paws. " You did the hard part, great job!" Mothflight smiled as she walked up. It was nice to not hunt alone. To have someone there when mistakes were made, like with the stick. " If it's all the same to you, I'd really like to try for one more. Don't want to show up to camp empty pawed." While she'd arguably helped Redberry make the kill, it certainly wouldn't be obvious to those in camp if the two walked back with only one piece of prey. Mothflight knew she needed to pull her weight, and then some, if she was to keep her place. " Do you want to try another squirrel? Maybe having a different prey type will be good, a nice little treat despite the season." No one could be picky with prey in leaf-bare, but maybe some variety would be good.
