ridgeclan territory
RidgeClan Camp Located on the mountain's sheltered incline, RidgeClan's camp is protected by natural barriers of pine trees, rock formations, and prickly gorse. Dens are hollowed out into or under stable rock, with the largest stone formation sheltering the leader's den. Rapids The rapids mark RidgeClan's border with the meadows. The river here is powerful, and all RidgeClan cats are taught from a young age to respect it, as it can—and has—swept cats away without mercy. Island Downstream from the rapids, where the river once again calms, it divides to cradle a small island in the center. This area is popular for fishing, and apprentices are often brought here to train. Cats are able to cross either by a fallen tree or, when the water level is low enough, stepping stones or even wading. Sometimes during the rainy season, however, the island can flood, making it inaccessible. River The river marks the majority of the borders between the three Clans, serving as a natural divide as well as a source of water. RidgeClan takes pride in their skill at fishing from the river, keeping their Clan fed even in harsher seasons in the parts of the river that remain unfrozen. Still, the river is too dangerous to cross by swimming, and RidgeClan relies on the dead trees that have fallen at a narrow point to form a natural bridge. Mountains The northern part of RidgeClan's territory is marked by the steady incline of mountainous terrain, with rocky outcroppings and sparse pine trees. Birds of prey and mountain lions present the most threat here, and hunting patrols in this region are always accompanied by at least two guardians. Pine Forest The lower slopes of RidgeClan's territory are dominated by dense pine forests, leaving the forest floor dim. Sparse undergrowth means cats must step carefully here, but a layer of pine needles does well to muffle any sound. Most of RidgeClan's hunting in green-leaf takes place here, where both cats and prey are more sheltered from the sun, and apprentices are brought here to train in a hollow well-padded by pine needles. Bluffs The bluffs mark RidgeClan’s border along the northeastern section of their territory. It overlooks the river, with massive, rounded boulders jutting out over the water and steep slopes leading down to the river’s edge. At the bottom of the bank lies a fallen tree, which allows cats to cross the river. The bluffs can be a hazardous area for those who don’t respect it and apprentices are often taught not to mess around here. Cairn Peak At RidgeClan’s northern-most border lies its burial grounds. The ground here is rocky and vegetation is sparse, but its view of the stars is unmatched, making it RidgeClan's holiest ground. Cats who have passed on into the ranks of StarClan are buried here, graves either scraped into the earth under outcroppings or constructed of stones. Cats tend to stack stones on the graves of their loved ones to both mark their graves and act as a memorial and sometimes, plants associated with the deceased are cultivated at their cairns. Young couples occasionally find privacy in the small caves found here. To sleep at Cairn Peak is to tread the line between living and dead, thus only oracles, leaders, and medicine cats are permitted to do so.
