appearance
A lithe, shorthaired tortoiseshell tabby van with dark yellow eyes.
Yolkpaw's quirky appearance is something they rather dislike. They are mostly white aside from their tail, a few spots on their body, and their ears. Oh, don't get them started on their ears. Both are crimped in a half-fold, just like their brother's. They have their father to thank for it, a clear sign of where they came from. The only thing pointing them to be tortoiseshell is the brown tabby patch on their tail—otherwise all their colored spots are red tabby. Their fur is short and soft but not very warm, so they much prefer hot weather to cold.
The apprentice's body is thin and fairly small, with disproportionately long legs that they need time to grow into. They desperately hope that they will gain more muscle with apprentice training. They have petite weaver's paws but not any desire for the training. Despite their age and ungraceful look, the young cat moves with the fluidity and coordination expected of a trained adult cat. It is their main strength amongst their peers: they may not be as strong as them, but they are agile and strike accurately. Their murky yellow eyes are usually squinted in an attempt to intimidate others. They bear no scars, but cannot wait to gain them in the future.

description
Kithood Yolkkit was born alongside Eggkit in a litter of two to mother Fawnstep. The siblings were born the same as any other Mistclan kit—in the nursery with the medicine cat watching over them. But Yolkkit soon learned that they weren't actually the same, for their father had not been a warrior of the clan but instead a barn cat outside of it. Fawnstep had left Mistclan to be with him, but after he had been killed by a monster she'd returned to her birthplace in order to have support for her kits.
The clan never let them forget it. Fawnstep's friends didn't care—especially Prongspring, who stepped up to help raise them and who Yolkkit sees as a second mother. But there were always those that stared, they could always feel eyes on them, and they hated it. They didn't understand why their mother had left... they loved Prongspring, and Spiderleap, and Brightsplash, and all their friends. Yolkkit can't imagine growing up without them. How could Fawnstep have left this behind?
They asked this once and Prongspring told them that Fawnstep was worried about the clan being attacked again, afraid that it wasn't safe anymore. So she'd gone to what she felt was a safer place. Yolkkit had been told stories of the war with Ridgeclan, but the gravity of the losses and lasting impact to survivors didn't register to the cat's young mind. Prongspring also said that love makes you do silly things sometimes, to which Yolkkit scoffed. Falling in love was pretty silly. They'd never do anything like that.
Yolkkit is very protective of their forgetful brother Eggkit, so much so that the pair are rarely seen apart. They make fast friends with slightly older brothers Swankit and Cloudkit, who also happen to be Hailstar's sons. Yolkkit doesn't get along as well with the other two kits in the litter, Dewkit and Stormkit, though they do think Stormkit is pretty cool. It makes them proud that the children of the leader don't seem to care about their outsider blood, even if some of the other kits do.
The kitten quickly establishes themself as a menace. They try to sneak out of the nursery during nap time, steal moss from the medicine cat's den for games, and generally do everything but respect their elders. It gets them a lot of flak, but nothing seems to temper their spirit nor their mouth. They enjoy following their older friends around and backing them up in whatever they want to accomplish. Yolkkit also really likes sparring, as their nimbleness lets them best even some bigger, older kittens in a fight.
Apprenticehood Apprenticeship can't come soon enough, as Yolkkit is all but tearing up the nursery in anticipation of their naming ceremony. They're excited to meet their mentor, excited to make their own nest in the apprentice's den next to Eggkit, excited to train with Cloudpaw and Swanpaw, and most of all excited to prove that they are and will always be a loyal, strong Mistclanner to all of their clanmates who doubt them.
What Yolkkit doesn't know is that not many warriors are lining up for the challenge of mentoring the sassy, loudmouthed young cat. Thankfully, someone they already respect steps forward—Fawnstep's friend Spiderleap, who Yolkkit adored and admired. They are ecstatic when they're given their name and learn that no one other than their cool, strong, funny uncle will be mentoring them. Yolkpaw absolutely cannot wait to get started.
They are a little sad that Eggpaw will not be training alongside them as a warrior. He's been taken on by Hawthorntail as a Historian apprentice. Prongspring will teach him some warrior techniques, but they won't get to train alongside him every day like they'd hoped. They doesn't realize that part of their trepidation towards their brother's position is that it feels weak. He won't be a full warrior, the shadows whisper. It's because of his blood, they say. Their eyes fall to Yolkpaw as if they believe they, too, are not strong enough for it.
They love their mother, but as they grow older, there is a grain of resentment rearing its head alongside the usual teenage rebellion. Fawnstep is so different from them, airy and gentle, and she would give up the clan for something as stupid as romance. Why couldn't she just have found someone to love in the clan? Then Yolkpaw and Eggpaw wouldn't have it so hard. They guess they're just going to have to show everyone themself how good of a warrior they can be.

personality
Yolkpaw is the dictionary definition of a pain in the tail. They're self-assured, say what they want without caring who it'll hurt, and have only about two respectful bones in their body (and they're very small bones). They have no qualms talking back to anyone, but will do their best to wheedle their way out of any consequences. Their mood is as changeable as the moon: some days they are far more difficult and ill-mannered than others. They tend to act on impulse and are very eager to prove themself to anyone who will watch. Most of all they hate failing or looking bad, and hold themself to a ridiculously high standard.

relations
Pre-Plotting: Yolkpaw fills the role of Spiderleap's apprentice and is the cheeky bodyguard in Cloudpaw and Swanpaw's popular kids crew. As for Mistclan's plot adoptables, Yolkpaw sits very firmly in the bark camp. They don't really give a mousedung about the other clans, only caring about what theirs thinks of them and that they succeed in their efforts. So they're very happy to vehemently defend Mistclan be it with tooth and nail or word of mouth. They will likely develop and change in their opinions as they grow, as they currently has a very childlike black-and-white view of cats outside of their clan.
Family: Yolkpaw loves their mother and brother, as well as mama Prongspring and uncles Brightsplash and Spiderleap. Even if they can be cross with their family sometimes, they genuinely see them as the most important cats in their life. If they seriously hurt any of their feelings, they would apologize and do their best to do better. They do not like to talk about their father, usually refusing that they even have one and insisting they have two moms, much to Fawnstep's heartbreak.
Friends: The spitfire young cat isn't the best at making friends, but that doesn't mean they don't have any. They are extremely loyal and protective of the cats they consider friends, and they may also get to see more of Yolkpaw's gentle side. Of course, they consider Eggpaw to be their best friend, but like Cloudpaw and Swanpaw just as much. And any of the brothers' friends are their friends as well, or will be soon.
Romance: Love is so stupid and they're never ever going to fall in love ever (this is foreshadowing).
Rivals: Anyone who gives Yolkpaw a bad look is considered their adversary. This especially includes anyone who talks bad about them and their brother. They are easily goaded into both verbal and physical fights, both because of their hot temper and because they simply enjoy it. There will likely come someone who really grinds their gears, and in Yolkpaw they will find a lifelong enemy.
