if you get too close
and i'm not how you hoped
Heronpaw is part of the current wave of older apprentices in PrairieClan. For the first few moons of his apprenticeship, he was difficult and reserved, refusing to listen to advice after a kithood of taking care of himself and learning that no one has his back. Slowly, he's coming around on his misguided beliefs, starting with reconnecting with the friends he never realized he had, and improving himself as an apprentice.
Below are the characters referenced in Heronpaw's bio. Some of these characters are super flexible and can easily be filled by existing characters. With the exception of Silversong and Eveningblossom, all names are flexible, though I've included some suggested suffixes for the more developed apprentices. If you're interested in Silversong, Eveningblossom, or Snowpaw, please definitely be familiar with Heronpaw's bio.

With the exception of Silversong and Eveningblossom, all names are flexible, though I've included some suggested suffixes for the more developed apprentices. If you're interested in Silversong, Eveningblossom, or Snowpaw, please definitely be familiar with Heronpaw's bio.
SILVERSONG | taken Despite some hardships he faced being born to a kittypet father who ultimately left the clan, Silversong was always cheerful and confident. He swiftly earned the respect and admiration of his clan, even his bullies, and was given the suffix -song to reflect his popular, charismatic nature. However, after the death of his mate, Swanfeather, Silversong grew nearly unrecognizable. Silversong and Swanfeather bonded as older apprentices and announced as mates shortly after receiving their warrior names. A few moons later, Swanfeather was pregnant. She survived labor long enough to name her sons, Heronpaw and Snowpaw, but died from blood loss shortly after. Silversong, struck with grief, slipped into a catatonic state. During the best of his grief, Silversong believed he only had one son, Heronkit. During the worst of it, he actively blamed Snowkit for Swanfeather's death, as Snowkit was the second born son. Overtime, Silversong's mental state has improved, and he is planning to soon return as a full warrior. He has deep regret for his behavior toward his sons after their mother's death, but doesn't know how to fix it. Silversong should be a silver/gray/blue tom with some bengal-like patterns. His prefix is a little flexible (so long as it matches his appearance) but his suffix should not change. The goal for his character arc is to happily reunite with both of his sons, though there may be some roadblocks along the way. Indigoblossom and Silversong's story could be romantic, if the adopters are interested in pursuing that. Silversong is also referenced in Whiskey's bio. They are separated friends with a potential to reunite in the future. Silversong's exactly feelings toward Whiskey are up to the adopter, but please consider him having romantic feelings toward both Whiskey and Swanfeather during his apprenticehood/early days as a warrior! Under very specific circumstances, Silversong could be a potential polyamorous romance option with Whiskey and Raventhorn. |
INDIGOBLOSSOM | taken Indigoblossom always wanted to be a father, but fate had it that he would be unable to have kits of his own. Because of this, he avoided anything to do having a family - including falling in love. He never allowed himself to express those feelings, including squashing a childhood crush on Silversong, then Silverpaw. But, when his sister gave birth at the same time as Swanfeather, Indigoblossom was unable to stay away from the nursery. He became Silversong's unofficial nurse after Silversong's mental state slipped away and has tended to him ever since. Pointedly, Indigoblossom did not try to raise Heronpaw and Snowpaw, because he was determined to help Silversong get better so Silversong could be the one who raised them. He was so determined, he failed to realize how left behind the kits ended up being. Like Silversong, Indigoblossom deeply regrets his behavior toward the boys, and seeks to have some sort of bond with them in the future. Indigoblossom and Silversong's story could be romantic, if the adopters are interested in pursuing that. Indigoblossom's name should not change. He must be an intersex tom unable to have biological kits. He should be around Silversong's age, plus or minus 1-2 moons. He's written as being involved in PrairieClan's herbalism practice, and is very dedicated to his work. |
SNOWPAW | taken In personality, Snowpaw takes strongly after Silversong. He's popular, charismatic, and clever as hell. There are moments when he's more like his brother and feels angry, lonely, or even betrayed, but Snowpaw is better equipped to handle those emotions than Heronpaw. Because Heronpaw doted on him so much when they were young, Snowpaw learned he could rely on other cats, whereas Heronpaw never had the opportunity to learn the same thing. Snowpaw's exact character arc is up to you! The goal is to have a happy reunion between the brothers and their father, but there can be plenty of bumps along the way. Snowpaw and Heronpaw have a strong relationship. Sometimes they get into tussles, but for the most part, they're as close as brothers can be. Snowpaw must be the same age as Heronpaw. They're written as brothers, but Snowpaw's gender is flexible, as is his name. Some suggested future suffixes are -song (for maximum drama, sharing it with his father), -heart, and -flight. His appearance is flexible, but he should be predominantly white (like his mother) and his prefix should reflect that. Though it's many moons before anything comes of it, Snowpaw and Bluepaw are intended to be childhood best friends turned lovers. I would prefer this not change! |
BLUEPAW | reserved Bluepaw is one of two surviving kits from a large litter, and thus sometimes called a "miracle kit." Their parents, Cedarclaw and Lilacheart, are dedicated warriors. They love their children, but don't plan on interrupting their warrior status to have more. As a kit, Bluepaw befriended Snowpaw (and to an extent, Heronpaw) and has been a staple in their lives ever since. The "grumpy" to Snowpaw's "sunshine," Bluepaw is a little prickly and has a short temper, though that's never turned against their friends. They love their sister Oakpaw, but the two often butt heads, especially over unimportant things. For Bluepaw, it's easier to figure things out during a spar or quiet hunt, rather than try to use their words all the time. Some might say they're a bit of a jock. Bluepaw is written as a NB cat but can be any gender. Their prefix and appearance are completely flexible. They must be the same age as Heronpaw and Snowpaw. Some suggested future suffixes include -claw, -fang, and -storm. Though it's many moons before anything comes of it, Snowpaw and Bluepaw are intended to be childhood best friends turned lovers. I would prefer this not change! |
OAKPAW | 11 moons Oakpaw is the other "miracle kit," though this title makes her a little shy. Like Bluepaw, she befriended Snowpaw and Heronpaw at a young age, and has been close to them ever since. She's sweeter than her sibling, but shares their same quick temper, especially toward anyone who tries to baby her. This is a very open character! Her name, appearance, gender, and personality outside of the above blurb are all flexible. The only requirements are she's the same age as Bluepaw and she's one of two surviving kits in her litter. Some suggested future suffixes are -fire and -berry. |
SPOTTEDPAW | taken Spottedpaw is the jokester of the friend group. Her goal is to make everyone laugh - including the unexpressive Heronpaw. Outside of Snowpaw, she's the cat with the best luck of getting through to Heronpaw, and often calls him her best friend. Heronpaw feels the same, though he struggles with the words sometimes. Through Spottedpaw, Heronpaw learned he has a fierce competitive streak, something Spottedpaw encourages as it's helping Heronpaw become a better apprentice. Other than her close friendship with Heronpaw, this character is very flexible. Name, gender, appearance, etc. can all change. Some suggested future suffixes are -belly and -light. Heronpaw and Spottedpaw are not intended to be an end-game romance, but that doesn't mean they can't have crushes on each other. |
SMOKEPAW | 10-12 moons Smokepaw is the brains of the friend group. She came along a little later, but still befriended Snowpaw and Heronpaw when they were all kits. For the most part, she uses her wits for good, helping organize and plan their apprentice outings. Every now and then, though, she can be a little sneaky. Of all these characters, Smokepaw is the most flexible. Absolutely everything about this character is open to change except for the short blurb above. Some suggested future suffixes are -gaze, -tongue, or -whisker. |
SWANFLOWER'S FAMILY | open After Swanflower's death, Swanflower's family pulled away from Silversong and his kits, wanting nothing to do with the tom who they perceived as getting Swanflower killed. Likely, this family has some anti-kittypet prejudices, and focused those prejudices on Silversong's (and thus Heronpaw's and Snowpaw's) kittypet heritage. Heronpaw and Snowpaw don't even know who Swanflower's family is. However, after watching the two kits grow up, and seeing what an absent father did to them, there may be some members of Swanflower's family who want to connect with the boys. Maybe they want to offer them love and warmth, maybe they want to turn them against their father completely, or maybe they want to do a combination of both. I'm open to whatever! These cats can have any relationship to the deceased Swanflower, but I'm especially interested in cats that could be her siblings or parents. Swanfeather was around 20 moons when she died and so her living siblings would be around 30 moons. |
