appearance
A small calico cat with tabby markings and white spots.
Underneath the dirt and dust of the tunnels, Newtnose is quite the pretty cat. Her calico coat features striking tabby markings, framed with a white chest and paws. Large ears frame a delicate face and soft green eyes. But time in the tunnels have left her squinting at the sun and coated in mud. When walking on the surface she slinks low to the ground, making her look even smaller.

description
In the heat of greenleaf three kits were born in the tunnels of Prairieclan's nursery. Waspkit, Troutkit, and Newtkit. Safely shaded from the sun's harsh rays and born in a time of peace and plentiful prey, the kits grow strong. Sprucestripe and Hareflight kept a close eye on their first litter, and before long the three were apprenticed.
Deerflight was assigned the small and quiet Newtpaw. Easily overshadowed by her sister's spunk and her brother's charm, the first three moons of their apprenticeship slipped by with Newtpaw struggling to keep up with her peers. As a first-time mentor Deerflight struggled to connect with his charge, even after talking with his prior mentor and Newtpaw's grandmother, Smallbreeze.
One day Deerflight sends Newtpaw and Wasppaw off on a hunting trip together. He and Waspaw's mentor tail them from afar. They hoped Newtpaw would feel more motivated with her competitive sister egging her on. The sisters caught a few mice, lucky in leaf-bare. Half-way back to camp they heard a yowling of warning behind them.
Newtpaw and Wasppaw rushed towards the tunnels to hide. Only once she was safely inside Newtpaw realized she was alone. It was dark, she couldn't see the stripes on her own coat.
She wandered aimlessly for a time, unable to tell how long had passed. Voices echoed distantly in the cave, though she sought their source she failed to find anyone else. Eventually she gave up and curled into a ball, utterly lost.
Smallbreeze found her granddaughter soon after. She guided Newtpaw back to the surface. After being in the dark so long the sunlight seemed harsh rather than comforting.
Back at camp Newtpaw learned her sister had not made it to the tunnels. An eagle had swooped down and grabbed Wasppaw. There was no body to bury, no way for the family to say goodbye.
Newtpaw never recovered from the death. For moons she had nightmares of being stolen and carried into the sky by an eagle, never again to touch the ground or see her family. The open sky had turned from a lovely sight and the home of her ancestors into a hostile pace.
In the tunnels of camp she felt safe, but struggled when she had to go above ground to continue her training. It got easier for her with time, but a stray shadow overhead would send her spiraling.
While normal training continued to be a struggle for the rest of her apprenticeship, tunneler training came easier to Newtpaw. The enclosed space, far from the wide open sky, gave her a feeling of safety and confidence.
Smallbreeze helped her continue to specialize on tunneler training, teaching her the layout of the tunnels and how to depend on the senses other than sight. Deerflight appreciated the help, but struggled to drag his apprentice back into the sunlight.
In the tunnels Newtpaw showed to be an impressive tracker. Using her sense of smell she quickly learned to tell which tunnels lead to fresh air, which ones her clanmates had gone down recently, and if any other creatures had passed through. Above ground she used her sense of smell to tell where prey was, quickly grab it, and retreat back to the tunnels.
No one was surprised when Newtpaw was selected to be a tunneler. She'd spent as much of her apprenticeship underground as she could, and showed far more confidence and dedication in the tunnels than aboveground.
Newtnose was named a few moons after her brother due to her extended tunneler training. They stayed cordial with each other, but Newtnose's reputation for being tunnel obsessed concerned enough of the clan that Troutstream kept his distance to protect his own reputation.
Smallbreeze and Newtnose grew closer now that they were both tunnelers within Praireclan. Hareflight and Sprucestripe were just glad to see their only surviving daughter named.
With the recent battle highlighting how important the tunnels are to the clan, Newtnose feels great pride in her position. Though she does fear having to use the tunnels to mobilize for battle again as she dislikes fighting.

personality
To most her clan Newtnose is known as an eccentric, easily scared tunneler. Her fear of the aboveground is a concern to many. Those who know her more know that while she is easily frightened and far too dependent on the tunnels for safety, she has a good side.
Other tunnels especially know her dedication to her job. She takes the upkeep and expansion of the tunnels extremely seriously, viewing them as the true heart of the clan and territory. Newtnose is methodical in her job, carefully maintaining the tunnels no matter how tedious it may be.
When talking to others she's a gentle she-cat. She never raises her voice, and tries to extend kindness to those her clan.

relations
Pre-Plotting: Newtnose best fills the Heather belief. Praireclan has enough problems on its own to worry about the other clans. The others can clean up their own messes and keep their problems to themselves. Praireclan should look inward and deal with its own problems, alone.
Family: Newtnose closest with her grandmother, Smallbreeze. The two she-cats grew close after Newtnose got lost in the tunnels and even closer after she became a tunneler. Her parents are concerned about her, but willing to keep their concerns quiet to keep her happy. Troutstream has distanced himself, though neither holds negative feels to the other.
Friends: She is a kind, if eccentric, cat and anyone willing to look past the paranoia will have a friend for life in Newtnose.
Romance: Newtnose is not particularly interested in romance, but would not be opposed to having a mate.
Rivals: Newtnose is not one for rivals. It would be most likely for her to be friendly rivals with another tunneler.
