cause you burn with the brightest flame"

With a lash of his tail, Mushroomstar clambered to the top of the massive rock where the leaders stood to address all the clans. Although his ascent had been awkward, he looked regal once he’d reached the crest and turned to look over the crowd. He stood tall, with his head held high and a confident gleam in his eyes. He waited for Littlestar and Hailstar to join him, and then yowled to gather all the attendees beneath the rock. Only once everyone’s attention was on him and the other leaders, Mushroomstar stepped forward. He didn’t waste time glancing at Littlestar or Hailstar to check if either one of them wanted to make their announcements first, eager to share RidgeClan’s news. “ RidgeClan is stronger than ever,” Mushroomstar began. “ Patrols are aware to be on the lookout for MistClan’s missing kits, though there’s no sign of them on RidgeClan territory.” It was easy to meet Hailstar’s gaze when lost kits were the topic. Even though he’d been having a difficult time just looking at Hailstar without being overwhelmed by fury, there was no anger in his gaze or voice as he touched on the topic of the missing kits. “ I wish you luck on your search.” Mushroomstar turned back to the crowd. “ RidgeClan patrols have also picked up outsider scents, particularly near the PrairieClan border. Something needs to be done about these outsiders before they get too bold.” He sent a brief glance in Littlestar’s direction. “ And I know word of the altercation between RidgeClan and MistClan has spread. It is true that I lost a life in the skirmish. The defector, Dawnclaw, currently of MistClan, took one of my lives from me. Only someone looking for a fight would take a leader’s life - are you trying to start a war, Hailstar? Letting your warriors kill to win battles when the code states that’s wrong? The conflict at the border hadn’t needed to go as far as it had.” As he spoke, Mushroomstar scanned the cats below and when his gaze fell on Dawnclaw, he scowled. “ Do you reward murderers by allowing them to attend Gatherings? Is that how MistClan treats killers?”

Hailstar leapt upon the rock, his accent more graceful after a lifetime climbing trees. He glanced at Littlestar, hoping she'd not believe whatever nonsense what about to occur was Mistclan's fault. For a heartbeat it seemed things would remain civil. Mushroomstar spoke of the kits and loner presence, he held Hailstar's gaze when speaking. Then it began. Slander and lies from a bitter cat with a bone to pick. Hailstar let the leader rant and throw out accusations, his face and demeanor calm. He would not rise to meet Mushroomstar's raise, not give any gathered reason to believe Mistclan were the aggressive ones here. " Mistlcan is also strong as ever. Recently we had a new litter born between myself and Riversong." Gatherings had a flow, a tradition of speaking. Clans spoke of their announcements before moving on. He'd not interrupt it to immediately address the accusations. Additionally, mentioning the new litter might make the cats in attendance doubt Mushroomstar's accusations of war, what new father sought to throw his clan into battle? " While we celebrate new kits, we have not forgotten our lost litter, and continue request any signs be reported to Mistclan immediately." He glanced at Littlestar, hoping she'd join him in getting the gathering back on track. " We wish Priareclan luck in dealing with the loners." And now for it. " It is true that there was an altercation between Ridgeclan and Mistclan, where Dawnclaw of Mistclan took one of Mushroomstar's lives. However, my warriors only acted in self defense. Mistlcan does not seek bloodshed. I spoke to Dawnclaw personally, and he acted only to save the life of his clanmate, who would have been fighting off two cats at once without his help. He had no intention of killing you." " As such I did not forbade Dawnclaw from attending the gathering. I will never punish a warrior for defending themselves and their clan." He hated speaking this much, and focused on keeping a calm but firm tone. " Mistclan has never sought war. We seek peace. Your anger that this battle occurred and your life was lost is justified. But if anyone is at fault here it is you, for failing to prevent the fight despite being there. Focus on better controlling your warriors and let this anger end here and now. For both our clans." He stared out at the clan, hoping his words stood strong against Mushroomstars. Then he glanced at Littlestar, inviting her to speak up before this turned into something far worse.

Aggression from Ridgeclan was not a surprise; aggression from Mushroomstar was a disappointment. She sighed as she followed him and Hailstar to the top. Once there, she kept a present but passive expression on her face. Even when Mushroomstar's eyes met her own, Littlestar simply looked back. Only when the anger she'd sensed boiling under his pelt erupted from him did her expression change, her former frown returning. Littlestar expected a commotion to erupt, and felt only relief when Hailstar stepped forward with a measured attitude. She listened just as carefully to his announcements as she had Mushroomstar's, weighing the two truths in her mind as she stepped forward. " As always, Prairieclan strives for peace," she began, looking out over the gathering of her own and other warriors. " Our patrols are monitoring the situation with the loners, and I'm happy to say there's been no aggression on either side. Prarieclan hopes for a peaceful solution, and we're seeking one every day." Littlestar paused to look over both other leaders. " We send our condolences to Mistclan for their missing kits. In the spirit of helping our neighbors, I'll be helping organize extra patrols to see if we can spot any signs we missed." Littlestar dipped her head to Hailstar. " And Ridgeclan, we send you condolences for your leader's lost life. Border spats that come to claws and teeth are a serious matter, especially in these days of peace and rebuilding. I trust, however, that Hailstar and Mushroomstar will be able to resolve this issue with the good of their clans in mind." Littlestar fixed both in her gaze, reminding them of what she had said at the leaders' meeting. " That's all for Prairieclan," she said, with an inquiring look at the other two in case they had more to say. Littlestar's paws were already itching to walk beside her clanmates again.

#s://i~imgur~com/uDMcZn9~jpg #s://i~imgur~com/uDMcZn9~jpg dawnclaw | | Men need a man would die as soon out of the light of a mage's moon. but it's not by bone, but yet by blade, can break the magic that the devil made. |
Dawnclaw had anticipated the demonization, but it didn't stop the fire from lighting in his chest. All he was grateful for was that neither his sister or his father were here - he wasn't sure he could face the hate he was sure would be in Duskfang's stare, or even the vicious disappointment in his father’s. He was the monster Sunstorm made him to be, just not the one he wanted him to be. Twisted words dripped from Mushroomstar's jaws like poisoned honey. Everyone would lap it up, all too eager to put a face to the beast that was hatred between the Clans. Wolfstar was gone, and so they needed a new catalyst to blame. And there was nothing more dangerous than a crowd with the wrong idea. A killer he may be, but impossible choices led him here. He stood tall with a defiant lift of his chin when Mushroomstar's venomous eyes fell on him. His lip feathered, only just barely containing his answering snarl. Hailstar, as promised, spoke in his defense following the updates for their clan. And then Littlestar, vying for peace between them. Dawnclaw had moved his gaze to his leader's stoic expression, his stern tone. He only looked away to meet Mushroomstar's challenging look, narrowing sunset eyes. "Often when we guess another's motives, we reveal our own," he rumbled with his deep voice, but kept his tail still from lashing. He tilted his head a little. "Very like RidgeClan, twisting reality to serve their agenda. I should know. It isn't the first time a leader has forced me to kill or be killed." He let that implication hang in the air for a heartbeat. "Your life was not meant to be lost, and there is nothing I regret more than it coming to that. Joining MistClan was meant to be an act of peace, not war. Will you be the one to follow the pawsteps of your predecessor and wage war once again? Because clearly it won't be MistClan."
