#s://i~pinimg~com/564x/3e/86/d2/3e86d2862b3975dbf7f2ee3ff95c2b3f~jpg It was hot. More than it had been recently after the Leaf-bare season came to an end. It wasn't something she was used to, but something that she knew she would have to get over with being a warrior. Luckily, the shade and fog of her home gave her shade and cover from the sun's rays. It would have sucked if she was born in one of the other clans.
The she-cat had managed to slip by all the cats in camp to avoid Wispfang ordering her on another patrol. Having a mentor as cool as him was nice, because they could just jokingly test and poke fun at each other without any hard feelings.
But, before she could make her way toward the river to see if there was any other RidgeClan cats to tease, a familiar scent caught her attention and caused her to slide along the wet grass as she turned. Stormpaw followed it, before finding her way to the Lightning Tree. She had only been here a pawful of times with her mentor, but nothing more than a passing by. The curious apprentice had been wanting to know more about the interesting place. But, as she trailed her eyes around the area, the familiar scent became a familiar sight.
"Dewpaw?" The dark she-cat moved toward her brother, her favorite sibling, as she would proudly proclaim to anyone... except her mother, who urged her to love all her siblings equally. "Whatcha doing out here?"

#s://i~imgur~com/204UvKj~png Free time! He could have yowled with excitement. Blue eyes glittered as the black and silver apprentice careened through camp, a grin wide on his face. Paws slapped the damp earth, blasting by warriors and cursing elders. He narrowly avoided a warrior trying to slow him down, side-stepping a moment before he continued his mad dash. He’d find his way this time! How? Well he’d have a chat with that silly moss, of course. Out in the forest, his sprint eased into a frolicking lope, leaving ”Thank’ye for the pointer”’s and ”I owe ye’s my gratitude”’s with the mossy trees. He was going west, like his mentor told him. Forget the other places — the Lightning Tree was the greatest spot. Good for sunning, good for wallering, good for sharpening his claws, hanging out with the other apprentices. When he arrived, he grinned with a little self-satisfied huff. See that there! He could find it on his own. Perceptive eyes flickered to and fro, a smirk ever present. Then there was a valerian root at his paws — where did that even come from? — and grabbed it in his teeth. A rush rippled through him at the scent, at the flavor as his teeth dug in. He tossed, pounced after it into the sand — “Dewpaw?” He tripped. Dewpaw tumbled head over tail, landing square on his back. He blinked at the valerian root at his nose, then at the approaching Stormpaw. “Whatcha doing out here?” she mrrowed. He grinned. ”My darlin’est upside down sister. I’s got free time and I inn’t wastin’ it! Got valerian root and now my favorite kitty-cat.”He flipped himself over, flopping with his paw over the root. ”Ye’s got free time too?”

#s://i~pinimg~com/564x/3e/86/d2/3e86d2862b3975dbf7f2ee3ff95c2b3f~jpg It took her by surprise as her brother tumbled forward with a root flying through the air. But, like all the littermates, she knew they were resilient enough to not let anything like that bother them.
With all of them in training nowadays, it was hard for all of them to get to see each other again, other than when settling in for the night. But, she had heard the rumors and laughter that the other apprentices would say about Dewpaw. Something about how he talks and acts weird or something? Well, it became clear pretty quickly that the apprentices shouldn't talk about it around her.
While she wasn't as close to Swanpaw or Cloudpaw, her and Dewpaw were as thick as thieves since they could adventure outside the nursery. He always supported her elaborate plans as a kit (which, of course now, as an apprentice, she finds silly and foolish), and he was always right there next to her.
"Valerian root? What does that do?" Stormpaw wasn't well acquainted with herbs, as she had almost refused anytime that Wispfang tried to get her to learn a little bit about them. Her warrior spirit for combat and hunting still caused her to become unfocused when learning about anything other than what it takes to be the best warrior.
The black she-cat watched her tabby brother flip right-side-up, with a casual smile and a head tilt. "Are there any other herbs you wanna look for? Maybe we can race to the top of the Lightning Tree to get a better view!" Anything to try to beat the heat.

#s://i~imgur~com/204UvKj~png "Valerian root?” Dewpaw nodded, his ears flopping a little for how hard he did. “What does that do?" With a paw too big for his gangly legs, Dewpaw hooked a claw into the root and tossed it far enough for him to spring up and pounce after it and grab it in his teeth. Grinning around the delicious root, he trotted to Stormpaw to drop it before her. “More herbs?” He sounded incredulous. He tapped the root between them. “This here’s all we need, sissy! Gnaw on ‘er a bit, it’s jus’bout good as catmint!”Valerian root was medicinal, sure. Brought down fevers, helped with sleep after perkin’ ya up, but it was the perkin’ up part he can’t rightly get enough of. He gave her a conspirator’s grin. “Gotinna bit o’ trouble when I tried to sneak some from th’meddy den once.”
