Western Winds is [North]’s littermate at 38 moons old. He is a barn cat who typically goes by the moniker West. Nearly everything about him is up to the adopter, including his name and appearance. A majority of his history is also up to the adopter, so long as it doesn’t contradict what’s written in North’s bio. Many details about West are flexible to give the adopter more freedom.
West was born to a royal family. His father, Cardinal Feather, or Cardinal, was the emperor, the mediator of four factions, and his mother, Sky, behaved like she was born into royalty despite having been born outside the empire. West was born alongside his brothers, North and East, and his sister, South. None of them got the chance to get to know East, who died the night of their birth, and they barely got to know South, who wasn’t around much before she died a couple moons later.
That left just West and North. Despite being complete opposites personality-wise, their already-strong bond only became stronger after the loss of their littermates. West was always looking after North, whether that meant attempting to persuade him not to do something mischievous, covering for him as he did something mischievous, or even doing his best to lessen North’s punishment after he did something mischievous. West’s efforts rarely produced the intended results, but there was no denying he tried.
Unlike North, West took to his studies like a duck to water. He made his mother proud as he excelled in her etiquette and healing lessons and when their father started teaching them how to hunt and fight, West made him proud, too. In their visits to the four factions where their father showed them what he did as emperor, West proved to be a natural leader and rapidly earned an impressive reputation. He was loved and respected by all. He tried to help his brother look better in the eyes of their followers, but North was never receptive.
When their father held ceremonies to mark the end of their training and West’s official title, Western Winds, was revealed, the cheers from the crowd were louder than when North’s title was announced. Just a moon after their graduation, North made the biggest mistake of his life, resulting in their father’s demise. Their mother banished him from the empire and West, who’d always valued his brother more than leadership, chose to leave alongside him. Their mother’s cold gaze followed them as they left.
They traveled for a couple moons before stumbling upon the valley where they ended up residing with the barn cats. One day, West woke up in the middle of the night to find North wasn’t beside him, so he waited for his brother at the entrance, certain he’d return to him. North came back, but in bad shape. North never volunteered any information about what happened that night and West never asked, though he wondered. Probably nothing good, though.
When North left to join the cabin sect, West stayed behind with the barn cats. Neither one of them blamed the other for their separation, but parting ways was difficult for West, considering he’d chosen to leave everything he ever knew behind for North. But he continued to be someone North could rely on, even if the favor was never returned. West adored North and could never intentionally hurt him, but how long can he endure being used for? How much longer can he give and give and give without ever getting anything back?
