appearance
Being an purebred Oriental cat, he tends to be a sight for any clan cat that he stumbles upon. This ancestors were life-long achievers for national show titles, so he exhibits the breed standard. He is taller than a normal Oriental, while being long and slender. His coat is always shiny and clean, as he does not venture out of camp very often and is very obsessive over keeping his coat clean. Due to being intersex and his reproductive organs becoming septic, he was completely neutered while a kittypet. He also had a declawing procedure done, so he does not have any claws. Indigoblossom is a solid black cat, which pops colors of deep blue in the Greenleaf sun. His eyes are a light green color and has wide-set, large ears.
description
[tw: surgeries, declawing/animal cruelty, death]
kittypet [0 moons to 7 moons]
Four kits were born for the next generation of show cats at the Twolegplace, a mansion just outside of the small cul-de-sac near PrairieClan. In order, they were named as the Twolegs decided the theme of the litter would be inspired by colors. They were Cedar, Merlot, Indigo, and Obsidian.
The Twolegs knew something was wrong when they saw Indigo for the first time. He had remnants of both reproductive organs, which would likely disqualify him in any show that he was taken to. Regardless, the Twolegs were still happy and knew that he would make a happy addition to a family that wanted to adopt him.
At the same time, the parents of the litter, Caroline and Boon, were just ecstatic to have their bundles of joy. It was Caroline's second litter, so she knew exactly how to take care of her young. Meanwhile, it was Boon's first litter, so he was just happy to know he created something so beautiful.
As they grew up, the parents taught the kits how to have high expectations for themselves, as they came from a prestigious line of Oriental show cats that spanned generations. Even little Indigo. Caroline took extra time to let the tom know that he was just as special as his siblings, even if he wouldn't ever hit the show floor.
However, at 3 moons old, he took a turn for the worse as his health rapidly declined. Caroline was able to call and bring the Twolegs to his side one day, and they tried to nurse him back to health. When that didn't work, they took the black kit to the vet.
Septic, they said, because of being born intersex. While the uterus inside his body was non-functional, his body started to see it as a foreign object and started to attack it. If he didn't get rushed to the vet so soon, he could have easily died. It was hard on the small kit to have surgery so young, but it was done. As a precaution, all his reproductive organs were removed, leaving him neutered.
Recovery was long, and he hated it. For a while, he was separated from his other siblings in order to discourage movement and to get his strength back up from being on pain medicine and antibiotics. However, his siblings would often try to play games through the playpen walls that kept him separated.
However, eventually, he recovered.
"Momma?" he asked Caroline, while the other kits were asleep beside them. "What is love like?"
"Love is everything wonderful. It is patient, soft, kind, and well... loving."
"Are you in love with Dad?" His head tilted.
"The Twolegs choose who I have kits with, but... yes, I think I love your father more than any other cat," Caroline purred, with her eyes looking towards Boon.
"Will I fall in love?" Indigo asked, with a yawn escaping his mouth to settle in to sleep.
"Of course, dear. You will find the one that makes life worth all obstacles."
The Twolegs decided they would keep Merlot and Obsidian for now to see if they were show cat material. Indigo and Cedar were not what they were looking for, so they decided to give them to, what they presumed, would be a loving home with two Twolegs that were young and ready for some pets.
At 5 moons old, Indigo was rambunctious. Well, rambunctious was exaggerated, as he only did normal kitten things. The Twolegs would get mad at him for scratching the furniture when Cedar wouldn't do the same thing, as she was a little more docile. Cedar encouraged Indigo to stop before something bad would happen, but Indigo felt like he was invincible and continued.
Because of their frustration, the inexperienced Twolegs took Indigo to a vet that did not have the best intentions for animals at heart, only looking to make money. And by declawing Indigo, that ensured a customer for life.
Indigo woke up after being declawed in pain and agony. He cried for his sister, who was locked on the other side of the door while he was placed in a room by himself to recover. The black tom could hear her on the other side of the door, and he never felt so alone than at that moment. Why was he being punished?
Once the bandages came off, he only felt worse. With having no claws, he resorted to biting. In retaliation for what happened to her brother, Cedar also began to do the same thing as Indigo.
Frustrated, but too ashamed to return them to the breeder, the Twoleg male threw them in a box, drove out near the wilderness beyond the Twolegplace, and sat the box in the middle of a lone field.
Indigo and Cedar climbed out of the box to see the truck driving away, realizing that they were abandoned at only 7 moons old. Still, they knew shelter was the most important thing. With the smell of cats nearby, they headed in the direction of a large, red barn in the distance. However, before they reached it, they were stopped by a patrol of cats with weird names. They were questioned, before the patrol looked at each other at the site of abandoned cats so young. A tom named Fawnberry vouched to take them to Littlestar to see what could be done for the apprentice-aged cats, and pleaded with the leader to allow the cats to stay, especially with Indigo's and Cedar's enthusiam to learn about PrairieClan. Littlestar agreed, and they were named Indigopaw and Cedarpaw.
apprenticeship [7 moons to 13 moons]
After the ceremony, Fawnberry, Cindersong, and Indigopaw had a small meeting to determine how to train the young kittypet, as he had no claws and was also neutered, which wouldn't make him a strong fighter in the eyes of the clan. Cindersong, opposed to the idea of sending a cat to the tunnels without claws, proposed that he could become a herbalist student. By not having claws, it was guaranteed that he would not be able to damage the herbs while tending to them, but allowed for him to still tend to the soil and growth.
Fawnberry, alongside Lionflower, began to teach Indigopaw about raising herbs. The young tom was just happy that he could something useful despite his circumstances entering the clan.
In addition, the nursery had queens and litters of kits that needed assistance from time to time. Indigopaw would retrieve moss to make the nests more comfortable, water for the queens, and entertain the kits while the mothers rested. Indigopaw became close with all the kits, and he would hear them all cry, "Indigopaw, Indigopaw!" when he would approach. He liked to tend to the youth of the clan, as his aspirations for love and family still were within his heart.
However, his mind told him that commitment and love was still scary to him. He loved his Twolegs, but they abandoned him when things got hard. It was hard for him to feel as though he could love anything again, especially romantic feelings for another cat!
But then, he met Silverpaw. It was a quick passing conversation, but Indigopaw was completely smitten by the beautiful tom. The other apprentice was likely to not even remember it after, but Indigopaw did. His mind kept him from forming too much of a crush on the other tom, but it didn't mean that he would try to catch glances at the handsome and wonderful tom when they passed.
king/herbalist student [13 moons to present]
Indigoblossom and Cedarclaw were made into full members of the clan, alongside Silversong and Swanflower, who was the same age. They all sat silently as they guarded the camp, though Cedarclaw kept trying to make Indigoblossom laugh.
However, shortly after the warrior ceremony, Indigoblossom happened to notice that gifts were starting to be left on Swanfeather's and Silversong's nest from time to time. It gave him a bad gut feeling, but especially when they were announced as mates. Jealousy could be seen written on his face by his sister, as she pulled him aside. Indigoblossom explained his lingering crush, and Cedarclaw only felt empathy.
"I'm sorry, brother. But sometimes, love just isn't meant to be in this life," she spoke.
But... but that's not what Momma told me, he thought, as he looked beyond his sibling to see the pair together.
Indigoblossom continues to help the mothers out in the nursery, but he focuses on his work as a herbalist. He hates the idea of being with the kits now, despite how much they call his name to join them. It just reminds him of what he cannot have.
Silversong and Indigoblossom speak every once in a while, but nothing substantial. Enough for the two to at least know of each other.
Cedarclaw and a tom named Lilacheart announce their commitment as mates. It leaves a pit in Indigoblossom's stomach that she told him that love may not be for him, but goes off and finds love herself. But, he loves Cedarclaw so much, and tries to be optimistic about the addition to the family.
Soon, however, war breaks out and MistClan is under attack. Cedarclaw and Indigoblossom stayed behind at camp, as she is quickly became pregnant with Lilacheart's kits. So was Swanflower, Silversong's mate. As the war was going on, Indigoblossom entertained the kits currently in the nursery to try to distract them from the tension and chaos of camp. It made him so happy to be able to distract them, especially when the injured and dead were returning.
He saw Lilacheart and Silversong, thank StarClan. Maybe love wasn't for his life after all, but he was happy to know that other loves would not be broken.
But, the happiness didn't last long, as he witnessed the death of Swanflower. He tried to help the medicine cat as much as he could to be able to run and grab supplies. However, on one of his trips back, he saw Silversong crying over her body.
Cedarclaw gave birth to six kits days after the death of Swanflower. Indigoblossom was tickled to death to have a more family members. However, with each passing day, the kits began to pass for different reasons. Only two were left: Bluepaw and Oakpaw.
As Indigoblossom steps back in to the nursery to help his kin with their litters and grief, he also connects with Silversong. He cannot imagine what the tom is going through. It all started with him bringing the widow a bird to eat, and Indigoblossom took it upon himself to assist the tom with whatever is needed.
"He won't be a warrior again," Cedarclaw speaks with bitterness in her tone. "Not at this rate."
"He just needs time," Indigoblossom retorts, officially dedicating himself to getting Silversong better.
Indigoblossom continues to encourage Silversong to be the one to take care of the kits, until he blows up at Snowkit while having him backed into a corner. Indigoblossom was returning to Silversong from grabbing prey from the fresh-kill pile just as the silver tom was yelling, but he didn't run over in enough time to control the conflict before Heronkit lashes out against Silversong.
Oh, no, what have I done? he thinks to himself. Did he cause the divide of the family uninternionally? He was trying so hard to get Silversong comfortable with being a father to both of them, that Indigoblossom didn't take into account that Heronkit and Snowkit needed a parent, period. Indigoblossom stands stunned for a moment, before retreating to his nest in shame.
It takes him a couple days to approach Silversong again due to the rising guilt he feels from not supporting the kits.
Heronpaw, Snowpaw, Bluepaw, and Oakpaw all become apprentices. He worries about Silversong's kits.
Heronpaw is struggling, and Snowpaw is angry. Really, they both are angry and struggling. He tries to talk to Silversong about starting over and trying to get to be their father again, but they are scared. Indigoblossom is scared too, as he feels like it is his mission to try to mend this family.
Indigoblossom becomes more involved with the nursery, trying to feel the void of a loveless life and busy work. He becomes an unofficial king to the nursery.
"You're too good for him. He is just using you for emotional support, and you know it," Cedarclaw hissed at her brother, with the anger obviously directed towards Silversong.
"I don't care what you say, sis. I know I am helping him. And if I can do anything to help those that took us in when we needed it most, especially since I can't hunt or fight to do my part, then it's worth it."
Heronpaw becomes better with all the busy work that Swiftwind is giving him, and Snowpaw continues to prove themselves. He suggests the idea of Silversong again to try to rekindle his relationship with his children.
"Heronpaw's improving. He's impressive to watch. You should see him spar," he calmly spoke to the silver tom, keeping him close to block out the winter winds of the plains.
"Do you think he'd want me there?" Silversong mewed, looking toward Indigoblossom.
"I think he would," Indigoblossom continues. "I think all those boys have ever wanted is their father."
"I know. I just don't know if I deserve them."
"You have to prove to yourself that you deserve them first. But bridges aren't magically placed overnight. They take time to build."
Indigoblossom promised to himself. He would not get attached to Silversong. He would try his best to mend his relationship with the brothers. He would fix this family.
Instead of being able to have a family himself, he needed to fix this family.
That would fill the void in his heart.

Pre-Plotting: Indigoblossom fills the role of Eveningblossom in Heronpaw's wanted ad, i was raised on little light.
Indigoblossom does not involve himself in politics. He is too focused on his duties as a herbalist student and king, but if he had to choose, he would likely fall under the Peony for the PrairieClan plot views. Indigoblossom is a simple man, and all he wants is for everyone to get along.
