#s://i~ibb~co/QkWXd7h/morning~png In leaf-bare, when the sun rose late and set early, it was easy to catch glimpses of the stars even when you didn't expect them. Morninglight certainly didn't expect to still see starlight when he woke up, having gone to sleep late after an evening patrol, but his rest was fitful and when warriors started stirring for the pre-dawn watch, he couldn't help but stir, too. It left him with an early morning of no plans, so he made his own, setting off on a solitary walk toward the northernmost reaches of RidgeClan's territory. Morninglight never consciously decided to visit Cairn Peak. The urge to do so always swept over him, like rapids he couldn't contain. Those rapids guided his paws this morning, safely carrying him over icy stones and snowy underbrush, RidgeClan's forest still fresh from the snow two nights prior. Cairn Peak was beautiful in the snow. The stones glistened with frozen dew and hanging icicles, especially now that dawn had broken. It painted the world in soft shades of pink and cream. Morninglight basked in his namesake for a moment, then hunkered down by the familiar stack of stones that marked Eveningstep's grave, and started to speak. "Hello, love. You'll never guess what Laurelfern did at the last gathering..."The sun was much higher when Morninglight finished speaking, just before the midday point. He pressed his nose to Eveningstep's grave marker in a quiet farewell, stood, and immediately winced at the stiffness in his cold bones. That's what he got for sitting amongst snow and frozen rocks for so long. One by one he stretched out each of his legs, feeling the joints pop and hearing them crack, before he finally felt steady enough to walk back to camp. Then, he heard a different sort of crack. The crack of a twig snapping under paw, echoing across the rocky outcropping of burial stones. Morninglight turned to look at who joined him at Cairn Peak, a sympathetic smile in place for whichever cat came to spend time with their lost loved one. "Good morning. You startled me, dear."

Frostpaw had awoken early to begin their normal morning duties, first to check on the herbs and organize them, checking to see if there was any that was low or to worry for. Once that was done she jotted it her mind before slipping out of the medicine den into the morning rays of light while the frosty air nipped at their nose. It wouldn't take long for them to wonder off to camp and finding themselves in the carin peak, spotting Morninglight the apprentice paused, attempting not to disturb the other, yet not long wouldnit take for her to accidentally snap a feeble twig under her weight and catching the atrention of the warrior. Softly she sighed revealing herself to the other. "Are you feeling alright?" She asked coolly, with a tilt of her head, those cracks that the older cat had given did not sound good and it concerned her as a medicine cat....well, apprentice, and she wanted to make sure that the other was alright. Of course, of the manner as to why Morninglight was talking to some stones wouldn't concern her in the moment, figuring the other had their reasons for it.

#s://i~ibb~co/QkWXd7h/morning~png Morninglight's lips curled into a smile, much like Frostpaw's ears, when the medicine cat apprentice stepped into view. He couldn't help it. Every time he saw them, focused and practical, he thought they were so cute. Most apprentices made him feel that way, but none as strongly as the serious-minded Frostpaw. It was their rank, he thought, that made their austerity that much cuter. "Are you feeling alright?"A curious question. Morninglight tilted his head in thought, wondering if he had expressed too much grief or sorrow while sitting with Eveningstep. "No one really feels alright when they visit Cairn Peak," he said, padding across the frozen rock so he could sit closer to Frostpaw. "It's a heavy place to be."Except... looking at Frostpaw's expression, that's not what they meant. "Oh," he said with a chuckle. "You must mean the awful noises my body makes. I'm fine, dear. Just arthritic." The tip of his tail flicked in amusement. In the time since Frostpaw became the medicine cat apprentice, Morninglight hadn't needed to go to the medicine cat den as much, and when he did go he always sought out Rainstorm. Now that it was leaf-bare, Frostpaw would soon get to know all about his aching joints. "Has Rainstorm taught you much about arthritis yet?"

They silently listen to Morninglight's response, especially about how no one ever feels alright when they come to Cairn Peak, especially how heavy it was to visit in the first place. That was something that hardly crossed the medicine cat apprentice's mind, especially when they go to the half-moon meetings with Rainstorn they get to see their ancestors and talk to Starclan but for Morninglight they couldn't. Nodding a bit she silently agreed It isn't easy not being able to know if they've gone to starclan or not..." they said softly and then blinked a bit before looking at the other. Of course, wouldn't take long for Morninglight to realize what Frostpaw was truly concerned about and expressed that they were fine, which was slightly relieving, meant less hassel for the medicine cat apprentice to worry about but... the other did mention having arthritis and asked if Rainstorm went over it with the other which made them think briefly as to if her mentor has or not before nodding. "It affects the joints in older cats, can cause severe inflammation as I recall. Rarer in younger cats, and its worse during extreme weathers if I recall correctly" they said while narrowing their bicolor eyes slightly trying to remember if there was anything more to it than just that. Didn't poppy seed help relieve pain from the affected? Of course the side affect was well... they get drowsy... was there something else? Their eyes slowly began to scan the ground as if expecting an answer from there. "...As far as I'm aware, poppy seeds help but can cause drowsiness, and I'm sure theres other herbs that also help without causing such a side affect" pausing they glanced back to the other. Heat rose through their skin and a soft nervous chuckle came from their lips and a wary smile on their maw "apologizes for that, you only asked if Rainstorm taught me about it, and I suppose the answer would be yes" of course she knew if Rainstorm was here and she had given her answer to Rainstorm, she was sure the other would say something about it being correct or go more in depth on what Frostpaw had potentially forgotten... nothing new of course.

#s://i~ibb~co/QkWXd7h/morning~png Frostpaw's words caused Morninglight's breath to catch, marveled at how simple and painful the apprentice's observations were. It was painful not knowing, but that wasn't what caused his grief. Morninglight didn't care if Eveningstep was in StarClan or not (that wasn't true - he cared very much that his love was safe in the stars), he just wanted him back. That was the painful part. Wanting what one could never have. But Frostpaw was so young, innocent to this sort of grief, and so Morninglight just swallowed his pain and nodded in agreement. "Yes. It's not easy." One day, Frostpaw would hurt the way he hurt now. Morninglight didn't wish them that tragedy any sooner than it needed to come, and so he chose to say nothing more. "Everything you said was right." He nodded approvingly, pleased at how much Frostpaw already knew. "I've had it my whole life, so I suppose I'm a rare case." Not that it was anything to be pleased by. The aching hurt. It always would. "I don't mind you rambling at all, dear. StarClan knows I do it." He winked, hoping to encourage more chatter from the apprentice. He wanted them to be comfortable. "I've been told I take over conversations, which I can only imagine is annoying - oh, look, there I go doing it now."Frostpaw was up here for a reason, after all. A reason that likely had nothing to do with Morninglight being sentimental and gregarious. "What brings you this far from camp, dear?"
