How sad and strange and yet at the same time Dappledfern couldn't let herself be entirely unhappy. Her sister was leader now, and she'd need support. Cats to back her up and help her get the clan through this. Dappledfern planned to be one of those, she had no doubt Turtlewhisker would as well. But it would be good to let Cinderstar know. She'd asked her sisters to meet her here in camp, to talk. And what else was there to talk about but Cinderstar. Cinderstar. Her sister had certainly grown up, changed from snotty kit to the leader of their clan. The possibility of it had always existed since she was named deputy, but who could've imagined it would happen so soon? Dappledfern ruminated how everything would play out as she sat in camp, her tail was wrapped around her paws to keep the warm. Hopefully the others would be here soon.

#s://i~ibb~co/rc8xfgw/cinder~jpg Cindersong - Cinder star, she still struggled to think of herself as - prolonged her time in her den that morning, taking advantage of a quiet moment where it seemed no one needed her. Littlestar's scent still clung to the walls. It was faint, now, after Cinderstar dragged out the old moss and down feathers that made up Littlestar's nest, but not faint enough that she couldn't smell her leader every time she settled down to sleep. How long would it take, she wondered, before she could step into this den without thinking of her leader's final moons? Too long, she decided. And as she thought about Littlestar - the last she knew her, anxious and quiet, and the bright, brave warrior she knew Littlestar had once been - Cinderstar decided she didn't want to be in this den any longer, no matter how peaceful it was to get a moment alone. She slid out from the den, blinked until her eyes were adjusted to the sunlight, and then looked around to see where she could make herself useful- oh. Dappledfern. That's why no one had come to bother Cinderstar, because she had promised this time to her sister. Sisters, really, knowing Turtlewhisker was supposed to be here, too. How embarrassing that she had forgotten and nearly didn't show up. "I'm so sorry," she said once she was close enough to Dappledfern. "Time is slipping away from me. I forgot we were meeting." She would be honest, of course, because her sister deserved nothing less. "We're still waiting for Turtlewhisker?" It was less a question, and more a soft confirmation of their other sister not being here yet. "What did you two want to talk about?"

#s://i~ibb~co/XSZtWPV/Turtlewhisker-posting-pic~jpg Turtlewhisker The mornings hunting was poor. All of the prey seemed reluctant to leave their warm burrows and by the time Turtlewhisker had turned back for camp, with nothing more than a scrawny shrew clamped between her teeth, she'd been beginning to wish she'd done the same. Ducking into camp, she shook out her paws to rid them of stubborn snow that still clung to her toes and then deposited her catch on the fresh kill pile. It really wasn't much of a pile at all these days, and it made her long for Greenleaf, those were the days of being content and well fed. She'd go out again later, if more snow didn't fall. Looking to the sky, she couldn't hold back a sigh. Her breath billowing out in front of her as she shook her head. Grey skies, it'd be surprising if fresh snow didn't blanket the meadows by tomorrow. Turtlewhisker turned her back on the fresh kill pile, ignoring the gnawing pain in her stomach and searching the camp for anything she might help with. Maybe the nursery could use some extra protection from the cold... It was then that she noticed her sisters sitting together close by and Turtlewhisker's breath hitched with the realization that she had forgotten their plans. She didn't know what was so important that Dappledfern had called them together, but it wasn't like her to be unreliable and blow off plans that she'd already agreed to. Shaking out her pelt, the tortoiseshell trotted across the camp and dipped her head to both Cinderstar and Dappledfern. "Sorry, time got away from me" she mumbled, flexing her claws as if it caused her discomfort to be sitting still at all. "Have you been waiting long?" she hoped not, it was far too cold to be waiting around.

#s://i~pinimg~com/564x/e4/a0/93/e4a093b62b6e11b8bde092a926bc478f~jpg #s://i~pinimg~com/564x/e4/a0/93/e4a093b62b6e11b8bde092a926bc478f~jpg dappledfern, Time passed as Dappledfern sat and waited for her sisters, wondering who would show up first. It was Cinderstar, complete with an apology as she turned up. " It's fine, there is a lot going on. And yes, she should hopefully be here soon." It didn't take too long for the last of the tortoiseshell trio to arrive. Perhaps a more cunning cat would've made a joke about time somehow slipping away from both her sisters. But Dappledfern was not one for jests. Nor was she one for comforting words, which was unfortunately the whole reason she'd dragged both her sisters here. The idea had made sense, comfort and support Cinderstar. But now that she was here, the right words to say evaded her. " It hasn't been long." Dappledfern replied to her sister's question, half stalling for time. Hmmm... reassurance. Be reassuring. Nothing came to mind. Well, if she couldn't think of anything sweet to say, might as well be honest instead. " I called you both here to say, first, Cinderstar, congratulations on being leader. And I'm sorry. Littlestar will be missed." " Also we're here to support you as leader, however we can. Right, Turtlewhisker?" Dappledfern looked to her sister, hoping that maybe she'd know how to pull all that in a better, nicer way.

#s://i~ibb~co/rc8xfgw/cinder~jpg There wasn't much time to feel guilty about being late before Turtlewhisker showed up. Cinderstar greeted her sister with a nod, lips twitching in the smallest show of amusement that they had the same excuse for being late. Time was getting away from them. It felt easier in leaf-bare, where everything blended together in the same mind-numbing mix of gray and white. The thick, gray skies overhead did not help, nor did they bring her any comfort. They meant snow. The meadow couldn't take much more of it and still provide for PrairieClan - should she send out more patrols now, instead of waiting? Before she could excuse herself to make those arrangements, Dappledfern was speaking. Cinderstar tried to make herself relax. She could take a few moments with her sisters before she organized additional hunting patrols. Or maybe Nettlefang would already be on it. "Congratulations on being leader. And I'm sorry. Littlestar will be missed."Oh. Silly of her to think Dappledfern wanted to discuss some kind of business. Of course her sister just wanted to be reassuring. "Thank you, Dappledfern," Cinderstar said with a sigh. "Though, I'm not sure I want your congratulations. Not yet. Not until I've proved myself fit for the role." Especially because her new rank came at the expensive of another cat's life. Littlestar died - that was the only reason she was leader now. Not because she deserved it. She would have to prove that, first. "Your support." She looked at Turtlewhisker. "Both of your support will be important to me moving forward."
