the kingdom The Kingdom is made up of cats from all walks of life, and therefore, its members have a variety of values. However, it's encouraged for them to think of originality, benevolence, and equanimity as important aspects of one’s character. Although The Kingdom is separated into three camps, they share a territory and are considered one group. At the top of the hierarchy in The Kingdom is The Council, who work together to maintain peace between the factions. Three cats are part of The Council, with each one leading a camp, and not one of them has more power than another. The unique high rank in The Kingdom is its Liaison, who acts as a mediator between The Kingdom and other groups. Traveling is not uncommon due to the Liaison being The Kingdom's connection to other groups, and they often hike from camp to camp within The Kingdom to carry messages and resolve disagreements between its members. They act on behalf of The Council and even speak for The Kingdom at Gatherings, though they are not to make any big decisions without first consulting their leaders. The Liaison may take on one apprentice of their choice. All three camps have medics, sentries, hunters, apprentices, queens, kits, and elders. Unlike the clans and their medicine cats, there isn't a limit on how many medics The Kingdom can have. As for sentries and hunters, the camps have specialized versions of them to better fit their unique ways of life. Those who choose to pursue a more distinctive sentry or hunter rank receive a few extra moons of training than those who don't. Skywalkers are the cats of The Kingdom who reside on the summit of the tallest mountain. The Skywalker camp was the first faction of The Kingdom to be created. Skywalkers are the most likely members of The Kingdom to share similarities with clan cats. Runners are sentries of the Skywalker camp who know how to expertly handle larger predators, typically by drawing them away. Jumpers are Skywalker hunters who were trained in how to take down birds of prey. Cats of the Skywalker camp tend to hold ceremonies and have two-part names like clan cats do. Children have the suffix -kit until they reach six moons old, which is when they receive the -paw suffix during their apprentice ceremony. They are also assigned a mentor, who reports to the Skywalker leader when they’ve decided their apprentice is worthy of graduating. The leader then holds a warrior ceremony for the apprentice and grants them their full name. Unlike the clan cats, Skywalkers do not support religion and may even discourage it. Those who are openly religious aren’t exactly looked down upon, but everyone may be wary of them. Nightwalkers are the cats of The Kingdom who reside in a cave. The Nightwalker camp was the second faction of The Kingdom to be created. Nightwalkers are the least likely members of The Kingdom to share similarities with clan cats. Shadows are Nightwalker sentries who have mastered fighting in the dark and Prowlers are Nightwalker hunters who are skilled at hunting in the dark, particularly in narrow caves. Members of the Nightwalker camp usually have one-part names like rogues do and they don’t hold ceremonies. Nightwalkers have the same name throughout their lives. Once a kit reaches six moons old, they become an apprentice, but instead of having a mentor, they are trained by the entire faction. Depending on which profession the apprentice has chosen to follow, the Nightwalker leader will accompany them on a training session between twelve moons old and fifteen moons old to judge if they’re worthy of graduating. Graduation doesn’t include a public ceremony, but the graduate is expected to spend part of the day disposing of their nest in the apprentice den and assembling a fresh one for themself in their new den. Nightwalkers oppose religion and they have little respect for those who are spiritual. Openly devout Nightwalkers can be expected to be treated like outcasts. Riverwalkers are the cats of The Kingdom who reside by the river. The Riverwalker camp was the third faction of The Kingdom to be created. Riverwalkers tend to prefer to remain neutral and while they do share some similarities with the clans, they've formed their own path. Divers are what Riverwalkers call their specialized sentries and they have perfected water combat. Fishers are their hunters who have trained longer than most and they can catch even the largest fish. Unlike the other camps, Riverwalkers have a mixture of both clan and rogue names. They do hold ceremonies, but only if requested. Riverwalkers are free to change their name, which is typically done during apprentice and warrior ceremonies, but ceremonies are not necessary for a name change. Apprentices can choose whether or not they want a mentor and if they do want one, they must find their own. Otherwise, the entire faction trains them and depending on which rank the apprentice is aiming for, the Riverwalker leader will accompany them on a training session when they’re between twelve and fifteen moons old to decide if they’re worthy of graduating. If the apprentice does have a mentor, they will assess them. If the apprentice passes, they and the leader discuss if they desire a ceremony and/or a name change. Riverwalkers are the most accepting of religion, but even they do not publicly announce their spiritual beliefs. They wouldn’t treat anyone differently for their pious convictions, but talk of it would be silenced. |
