appearance
basic appearance description: Ryewhisker is a cream-furred tom with brown points, a scar on his shoulders, and blue eyes
Ryewhisker, even if he was born a kittypet, takes on a lot of his characteristics from his late father, Ryeflight. This tom is the perfect example of a Mistclan cat, as they have a lithe, small frame with long legs. He does not have noticeable muscles, nor does he have a lot of strength, so he uses his speed and stamina to overcome his enemies in battle. His front legs and shoulders tend to look very tense, due to his status as a weaver. His fur is very soft, comparable to how humans feel with sheep's wool.
At a glance, Ryewhisker is similar to a siamese, even with their mutt-like heritage. Given that his mom was a stray in the twolegplace and his father was a clan cat, he has no pure blood that leads him to a certain breed. Ryewhisker is a cream-colored cat that can vary in shades depending on the season. A thicker coat can make it look darker in the colder moons. They have a scar that runs the length of both shoulders, given to them by his harsh and ruthless mentor, Boulderclaw, as a punishment during a lesson. They have blue eyes that many cats compare to how blue the river is during Greenleaf.
His voice is quite soft, only harshening when the situation is tense. Many find his voice quite nuturing, especially with young kits when he tries to sooth them. They, due to their timid and nervous nature, tends to have speech disfluency when they talks.

[prologue]
Unlike her, she wanted her kits to have nice names. Having been a stray all her life in the Twolegplace, she never had a name that stuck around.
Whiskers, Cat, Honey, Sweetie... they never stuck around for long. Except the name Kitty.
Almost all the twolegs called her that, so that's all she knew to call herself. The other cats, whether they were loners or kittypets, knew her by that name too.
But to one tom, she was known as "Love".
She met Ryeflight when he was hunting on the Mistclan territory, and the two had an instant connection. Ryeflight would often sneak out of his duties to meet with her, causing him to have a bad reputation. But he didn't care. All he needed was his "Love".
However, one day when he came to visit her, a monster ran over and killed him. Kitty was heartbroken when discovering his body, but was more heartbroken when she realized she was pregnant with his kits. The she-cat was pretty young, and she didn't have a reliable way to get food or to have a safe place to live.
However, she managed to get lucky when an old woman took her in.
kittypet + kithood [0 moons to 6 moons]
Kitty gave birth to her two kits. She named them in a similar way that the clan cats named their kits, as she had heard stories from Ryeflight about how they name their young. She named Fire for ginger and brown spots. Then, she named Rye, for his brown points and after his late father.Life was good for two moons after the kits were born, until one night, when the old lady got very sick. Kitty got scared when all the sirens approached the house, so she hid with her kits in the closet as people entered and left the home.
It was several nights that there was no one in the house, and the kits started to get hungry. Kitty had no choice, but to assume the worst.
A window had been left open in the kitchen with a screen on it. It took Kitty a lot of time, but she managed to rip a hole big enough for her and her kits to slither through to the backyard. Looking back at her home, she knew there was only one place to take her kits... for them to be safe.
The three strays approached the MistClan territory border, as the kits began to wonder where their mother was taking them.
Kitty managed to run into a patrol with two warriors and an apprentice. They questioned why they were in the territory, when Kitty explained that she was here to return the kits to their rightful home, as they were half-Mistclan. The warriors were skeptical that they were Mistclan cats, but once she explained the story of her and Ryeflight, in addition to explaining secrets that only Mistclan would know, the warriors believed her.
The cats took Kitty, Rye, and Fire to Russetstar, where they were accepted into the clan.
However, that same night, without a trace, Kitty disappeared and left her kits in the hands of the clan.
apprenticeship [6 moons to 13 moons]
Ryekit and Firekit, who were named after Kitty left the clan, were dutifully appointed as apprentices once they were of age. Both Ryekit and Firekit had been looking forward to the day that they would become apprentices.
They had always talked about it in the nursery, to the point where the queens would bribe them to talk about something else.
They beamed with pride as the leader, Russetstar, called for a clan meeting. Both of the siblings were named Ryepaw and Firepaw.
Firepaw's mentor was announced, and she received Windfeather. Windfeather was a senior warrior of the clan, but they were well-respected, especially in hunting.
Next, came Ryepaw.
As he smiled up to his leader, he was given his mentor... Boulderclaw. Something snapped in their head, as despair and desperation were colored on his face.
Boulderclaw was known to all the apprentices and warriors to be very ruthless, cruel, and up-tight. Ryepaw and Firepaw had heard the tales from the apprentices that had been before them. Some rumored that he eats all of his apprentices. Some also rumored that he works his apprentices to death to the point they become emotionless, other than being dedicated to being a warrior and work until they rot of old age.
However, these were common apprentice den rumors, and had been played off as such. No truth behind the statements, but enough to make Ryepaw scared.
Was there any truth to the stupid-little kit rumors?
Ryepaw approached their mentor after the ceremony, as they was beckoned by the large brute. Immediately, Boulderclaw told Ryepaw that they would begin fighting techniques, using the impending tension between the clans as an excuse.
From that moment on, Ryepaw regretted every moment of their apprenticeship.
He wished that he would have taken off like his mother did. Boulderclaw made the young apprentice work from when the sun just peeked over the horizon, until the night had taken over the land. He was tortured to do hunting and fighting exercises with the brute, but he didn't let Ryepaw get away with anything.
Boulderclaw would always use all his strength and claws unsheathed, as to "teach" Ryepaw to never underestimate their enemy, and to experience what a fight was really like. He would come to the camp at night covered in wounds and scratches, often brushing it off as him being clumsy or running into brambles.
Unlike her brother, Firepaw had become quite popular in the clan, even with her kittypet blood. But the opposite could be said about Ryepaw. Many said that Ryepaw got a harsh mentor, due to his kittypet blood.
The two apprentices had different experiences, but this didn't stop Firepaw from being there for her brother. She would try to find ways to keep Ryepaw from Boulderclaw, such as suggesting Boulderclaw for long patrols or convincing Windfeather to take them both for the day.
Firepaw would stay up with Ryepaw in the late hour of the night, licking over his wounds and doing her best to make sure that he knew that she was there for him.
However, as the wounds got worse, even warriors begin to question Boulderclaw's morals.
One day, a yowl echoed through the Mistclan territory, as Ryepaw collapsed in front of Boulderclaw.
A deep, serious wound stretched across their shoulders, as Ryepaw struggled to gasp for air due to the pain.
Three warriors on a patrol near by heard the screech, and arrived on the scene. They saw Ryepaw shaking on the ground with blood pooled around him. Boulderclaw stood emotionless and stoic, except with a slight hint of satisfaction yet fear on his face.
The warriors rushed to Ryepaw's side, carrying him to the medicine cat den. Firepaw was in camp at the time and joined her brother's side.
As the medicine cat began to treat their wounds, Ryepaw explained to the questioning warriors that they were running fighting exercises when they messed up on a very simple move. Boulderclaw had become frustrated, as Ryepaw had made more mistakes in the same day. Boulderclaw's eyes glistened with a new rage that Ryepaw had never seen before. "I've never had such an incompetent apprentice as YOU," he roared, before slicing at Ryepaw's back, landing his large, powerful claws on the back of the apprentice.
The warriors were stunned, as they went looking for Boulderclaw to ask him about the incident. However, he was found a little bit over the territory border, covered in wounds.
It appeared he had been attacked and killed by something, but the scratches were not recognizable to one animal.
Ryepaw, after his recovery, was appointed a new mentor named Whitebranch. The leader thought that having a softer mentor may be able to help Ryepaw become a warrior even through his trauma. But Whitebranch had another idea.
The she-cat had seen Ryepaw during training, and saw that while he would defend his clan no matter what, he wasn't a warrior. Bottom line. So, she introduced them into the weaver position. She had been a weaver temporarily during her years, before coming back to the warrior lifestyle.
Once Ryepaw was introduced to weaving, they were hooked.
It was determined by his mentor that this is where he belonged. Ryepaw was able to get trained quick enough to join his sister for their warrior ceremony at 13 moons.
weaver [13 moons to present]
The new leader, Hailstar, appointed the siblings to their new names, Ryewhisker and Doeflame.
While Ryewhisker was in charge of weaving the walls to protect the camp, they could not have predicted the attack from Wolfstar and Ridgeclan. Ryewhisker defended the nursery with the kits and queens inside, making sure no hostile was able to enter. Once Prairieclan entered the battle and helped Mistclan drive out the attack, Ryewhisker, immediately, began to repair any damaged walls of the camp, as he had somehow came out of the battle with slightly minor injuries.
personality
Unlike his sibling, Ryewhisker is very quiet and doesn't let their voice be heard. Due to the fear that Boulderclaw instilled into him, Ryewhisker is quite nervous and worries a lot. Many cats call him "paranoid", but it's not necessarily the case. They are just wary of dangers and tends to try to stay out of conflict. Ryewhisker is careful of everything around him and makes sure that it is safe for him and his clanmates. Ryewhisker, even with his trauma, can be quite emotional in his feelings. It seems the long torture they endured has made them more outspoken about when they are upset. Even with his scared and nervous demeanor, no cat can deny how friendly and personable the tom is. Ryewhisker wants to prove that he can be a great clan cat even with his father's negative reputation and his half-clan blood. They can often be seen making jokes and trying to make the mood light-hearted when on patrols or dealing with situations that call for support. Especially to those he loves, he is extremely devoted to them and wants to make sure they know he is always there for them.

relations
Pre-Plotting: Ryewhisker is mostly aligned with the Branches plot adoptable. As he was born to an outsider, he thinks that the diversity of the clan is what makes MistClan unique and special when compared to the others. They also think that they have a "debt" to pay with PrairicClan, as they were the ones to help drive out RidgeClan during the attack. While they shouldn't give up who they are for the other clan, they should at least keep the alliance going until RidgeClan can settle into new leadership.
