MOTHLIGHT | reserved Mothlight is Brindlehawk’s mate at 31 moons old. Brindlehawk and Mothlight became close as apprentices and it wasn’t long before they both caught feelings for one another. Shortly after she became a warrior, named for her lively and sunny personality, she asked Brindlehawk to be her mate. When Brindlehawk started to spend more time with Brookshine, it’s likely Mothlight was jealous, especially since much of Brindlehawk’s time in the moons before had been taken up by Falconfeather. Mothlight fought in the war, though probably not in support of Wolfstar. In the aftermath, she spent much of her time looking after Brindlehawk, who was grieving the loss of his littermate, Bearclaw. She also became closer to Falconfeather due to Brindlehawk’s neglect and though feelings didn’t develop between them, they did behave a bit like they were mates - to the point where even Brookshine noticed. However, Mothlight still cared very much for Brindlehawk. As Brindlehawk started making an effort to keep their relationship alive, Mothlight discovered she was expecting. Her guilt increased tenfold, because she knew these kits were not Brindlehawk’s, but Falconfeather’s. She either told Falconfeather he was the true father before she told Brindlehawk or soon after, but either way, he was sworn to secrecy. Mothlight couldn’t bring herself to hurt Brindlehawk by telling him the kits he thought were his were actually his best friend’s. She felt even worse when the kits were born, because Brindlehawk was so excited to be a father, even naming their son after his supposedly deceased brother. Despite not being the best mate, Mothlight was a great mother and was very involved in her children’s lives. And then Shellpaw and Bearpaw left the nursery, and Brindlehawk was granted an apprentice of his own, and Mothlight began to feel awfully lonely again. Mothlight found company in Falconfeather and if she didn’t have feelings for him before, she did now. |
SHELLPAW | open Shellpaw is Mothlight and Falconfeather’s daughter at 9 moons old, but she believes Brindlehawk is her biological father. As kits, both Shellpaw and Bearpaw were doted on by both their parents. As they blossomed and their unique personalities began to emerge, it became quite clear that Shellpaw was very much like how Brindlehawk had been when he’d been a kit. She was assertive and dauntless, and a bit hotheaded, but at least it wasn’t like she went looking for fights. However, she did find herself getting into trouble a lot. Brindlehawk often worked with her to help her gain control of her short temper. |
As kits, both Shellpaw and Bearpaw were doted on by both their parents. As they blossomed and their unique personalities began to emerge, it became quite clear that Bearpaw was nothing like his namesake. Though a tad foolish, Bearpaw was spirited and good-natured, which made him quite likable and popular. He was a clumsy kit and would often cry to his parents whenever he gained another bruise. Thankfully, Brindlehawk never failed to be there when Bearpaw needed him most. |
FALCONFEATHER | reserved Falconfeather is Brindlehawk’s best friend at 33 moons old. He is also the biological father of Shellpaw and Bearpaw. Throughout a majority of Brindlehawk’s life, Falconfeather has always been there. They probably wouldn’t have become friends if it hadn’t been for Mousefoot, Falconfeather’s best friend since he opened his eyes. She’d been the one to befriend Brindlehawk first and had then introduced the two toms. Starting when they were old enough to walk, Falconfeather and Mousefoot’s parents had hoped the pair would eventually become mates, and made their wishes very clear to both Falconfeather and Mousefoot, which was very uncomfortable for them. Not long after becoming warriors, Falconfeather and Mousefoot did become mates - not to satisfy their parents, but because they’d developed feelings for each other over the past few moons. They were excited when Brindlehawk and Mothlight became mates, too, and imagined a future where Mousefoot and Mothlight were in the nursery at the same time. Unfortunately, tragedy struck before the future could arrive. Though Brindlehawk and Falconfeather tried to rescue her, Mousefoot was carried off by an eagle and was never seen again. Falconfeather was inconsolable, but rage quickly took over him. He pushed away everyone who cared about him, and lashed out at anyone who dared to so much as try to speak to him. And then, seemingly overnight, Falconfeather started to care a whole lot about StarClan - to an unhealthy extent, actually. In an attempt to feel closer to Mousefoot, he turned to his ancestors, and he became easily convinced that StarClan wanted RidgeClan to claim the Mooncave. Falconfeather fought in the war for Wolfstar and his mission. It was only in the aftermath that he realized how wrong he’d been to support Wolfstar, that Mousefoot wouldn’t have wanted him to participate in the battle. As Brindlehawk mourned for his brother, Falconfeather and Mothlight started spending more time together. She felt neglected by Brindlehawk and Falconfeather needed a friend more than ever. He might’ve developed feelings for Mothlight during this time. And then Mothlight revealed she was expecting. Whether she told Falconfeather he was the biological father before she told Brindlehawk or after is up to the adopters. He promised he wouldn’t tell a soul. Like Mothlight, he also didn’t want to hurt Brindlehawk and he struggled to accept that these kits were not his and Mousefoot’s, but his and Mothlight’s. He soon came around and by the time the kits were born, Falconfeather was ready to be involved in their lives, though not as their father. When Brindlehawk was assigned an apprentice to mentor, Mothlight’s loneliness returned and Falconfeather was happy to provide her with company. If he didn’t have feelings for her before, he certainly did now. |
BROOKSHINE | reserved Brookshine is Brindlehawk’s friend at 29 moons old. Brookshine joined Brindlehawk’s friend group a moon after she became a warrior. Like Mothlight, she was bouncy and carefree, and Brindlehawk was immediately drawn to her. She likely felt the same way. However, neither of them acted on their feelings, but they did remain friends. Brookshine probably never had a great relationship with Mothlight due to jealousy - whether or not it was only Mothlight who was jealous or if both she-cats were jealous of each other is up to the adopters. Brookshine fought in the war to protect her clanmates. She was there to comfort Falconfeather in the immediate aftermath and when Brindlehawk was mourning for his littermate, Brookshine was there for him, too. She noticed Mothlight and Falconfeather growing closer post-war as Brindlehawk grieved, and wasn’t fond of how they acted around one another. However, she decided to think positively and convinced herself that Mothlight and Falconfeather would never hurt Brindlehawk like that. When Mothlight and Brindlehawk told Brookshine they were going to be parents, she found it challenging to be happy for them. With the way Falconfeather and Mothlight had been behaving when they were together, she couldn’t help wondering if these kits were even Brindlehawk’s. She started distancing herself from Brindlehawk, Mothlight, and Falconfeather. Falconfeather and Mothlight’s potential, complicated affair. The fact that she wanted to be the one carrying Brindlehawk’s kits. It was all too much for her. |
