when all your heroes get tired
i'll be something better yet
Stonefur sits in an awkward space between tunneler and warrior. Coming from a family of mostly tunnelers, he was raised to value and respect the practice. He desperately wants to be a full tunneler, despite his size making it challenging to navigate the narrow twists and turns. Because of his size, he was never allowed to take full tunneler training, and most of his time working with the tunnels is spent repairing exteriors or only traversing the main, widest tunnels. Luckily, Stonefur also likes his work as a warrior, and doesn't mind being "topside" like many of his tunneler peers do.
Below is a list of characters who feature in Stonefur's wanted ad that I would love to see played! They're all pretty flexible characters, though please familiarize yourself with Stonefur's bio if you'd like to adopt one. Unless otherwise mentioned, their gender, appearance, and name are up to the adopter! Their personality and opinions on the tunnels are briefly outlined, with plenty of room for making changes.

POPPYLIGHT | 28-30 moons, open Aside from Stonefur's brother, Poppylight was Stonefur's first real friend as an apprentice. He made sure Stonefur was always included in things, and was very patient with having Stonefur open up. Overall, Poppylight is a bright, cheerful warrior, who's a little skittish when it comes to confrontation and the tunnels. Additionally, Poppylight is close friends with Raventhorn and featured in his bio. In recent moons, Poppylight and Stonefur have a bit of distance because of their differing opinions on the tunnels. Poppylight hates this, and wants his friend back. As a note: Poppylight is written as having his father for a mentor. Below is a completely optional bit of drama to include in his backstory if you're interested. The only mandatory thing to include is that his father, Lynxheart, was his mentor, and had a terse and emotionally fraught relationship with Poppylight, enough so that Stonefur and Raventhorn stepped in to protect their friend. [OPTIONAL] Lynxheart and Palestripe were young lovers, falling for each other when they were still apprentices. As young warriors, Palestripe was excited to experience the world, but Lynxheart insisted she take a position as a queen, at least for a little. Palestripe agreed, but her first litter was stillborn, and frightened her away from the nursery for many, many moons. During this time away from the nursery, Palestripe realized Lynxheart wanted too much from her. He wanted her to be a permaqueen, while she wasn't even sure she wanted a single litter. The two started fighting more and more often, until it became clear their childhood affection for each other was gone. In an attempt to save their mateship, Palestripe agreed to try one last pregnancy. Before she realized she was pregnant, Palestripe met a loner who swept her off her feet. She agreed to be their mate, if only for a night, knowing that her relationship with Lynxheart was more or less over. A few days later, she discovered her pregnancy. Because of how cat pregnancies work, Palestripe gave birth to both Lynxheart and the loner's children. Poppylight has two older siblings that are clearly Lynxheart's, whereas Poppylight takes more after his mother and potentially the loner. Part of Lynxheart always knew Poppylight wasn't his child, despite Palestripe never telling him. When Poppylight was six moons, Lynxheart convinced the leader to allow him to train his son, citing his concerns that Poppylight needed a loving touch. This began an apprenticeship that was fraught with abuse - mostly verbal and emotional, but as Poppylight grew older, sometimes physical. Poppylight could never figure out how to ask for help. In the end, it was easier to hide with his friends, and otherwise do whatever his father said so he could get his name without further delay. Lynxheart tried to hold Poppylight back from being named, but failed to justify himself to the leader. Since then, Lynxheart has continued to be harsh on Poppylight, but hasn't been able to get him alone thanks to Poppylight's friends. |
RAINSTRIKE | 29-31 moons, open Though they were first friends in the nursery, Stonefur and Rainstrike's real friendship didn't begin until Stonefur started his tunneler training. Rainstrike was one of the few tunnelers who accepted Stonefur as a full tunneler, despite his limitations in the role. She's always the first to volunteer to work with him, both underground, and in the rare moments she has to work topside. As they both aged, Rainstrike and Stonefur came to share a similar opinion on the tunnels. They both believe in maintaining the tradition, but think some practices and education around the tunnel has to be modified to protect more lives. They were working together to make a plan when a sudden tunnel collapsed nearly killed Rainstrike. Stonefur dug her out, but the collapse left her severely injured. Now, she struggles with what to think about the tunnels. If you adopt Rainstrike, it's up to you what direction she goes in regards to the tunnels. Currently, Rainstrike is still recovering in the medicine cat den after her injury during the first moon of leaf-bare. It's also up to you to what degree she recovers, though she was originally imagined as having a permanent disability. I strongly encourage Rainstrike also being one of Silversong's sisters. |
FOGBREEZE | taken As apprentices, Fogbreeze and Stonefur had an odd relationship where Stonefur put up with Fogbreeze's bad opinions and tendency to take teasing too far in exchange for Fogbreeze leaving Stonefur's real friends alone. This relationship softened when Stonefur became a tunneler, though Fogbreeze often mocked Stonefur for his partial-tunneler status. The fondness they started to develop for each other didn't last long - shortly after Stonefur got his warrior name, Fogbreeze made a mistake that nearly got Raventhorn killed, and Stonefur has never forgiven him for it. Fogbreeze must be one of the clan's best tunnelers - it's one of the reasons so many put up with his nonsense. His opinion on the tunnels is completely up to the adopter. It'd be interesting if he secretly hated them! Though it's been moons since they last spoke, Fogbreeze hasn't been able to forget his crush for Stonefur. It's possible those feelings have grown into something deeper, though they're coupled with the knowledge that Stonefur hates him. Whether or not these two repair their friendship, let alone explore what almost bloomed between them, is something I want to leave up to the RP! Fogbreeze is referred to as Goldenbreeze in Stonefur's bio. |
HEATHERCLAW | taken Heatherclaw is Stonefur's cousin and former mentor. Like Stonefur, Heatherclaw was too large to pursue tunneler training, despite coming from a family that pressured him into it. In the end, Heatherclaw decided he was happier above ground. He has no desire to ever step foot in the tunnels, however, he is a pro-tunnel character. He was one of the few cats who supported Stonefur without question, and pushed for his apprentice to get the tunneler training he wanted. Heatherclaw's pro-tunnel opinions come from a selfish place. He likes being lauded for his skills as a warrior. He likes knowing the clan relies on him and his size to keep things afloat, at least topside. He worries his abilities as a warrior - hunting, tracking, and fighting above ground - might be diminished if too many tunnelers become plain warriors. His other reason for wanting to keep the tunnels is because he knows Stonefur loves them, and he wants his cousin to be happy. |
