The nice thing about the pine forest, Shadepaw'd learned while training in the hollow, is that leaf-bare doesn't strip the trees barren. No, even now, the pine needles adorning the branches overhead kept the bright, crisp sunlight from reaching the forest floor below. Each step in the thin coating of snow underfoot - most of the flakes were caught into the trees high above - revealed the thick layers of pine needles underneath; it produced an odd, muffled crunch that was barely audible in spite of the stillness of the woods. It was really, really neat to see. He rubbed up against the sturdy bark of a nearby tree, purring softly as it scratched just the right way, soothing an itch that'd been bothering him for a bit since an accidental tumble down a slope on the way here. It was just nice to get out of camp, to put distant between herself and the tenses of the clan and general toxicity of her grandparent and their family. Unfortunately, Toadfeather had been busy this evening doing all the things that deputies did and Shadepaw had been nasty to get out and stretch her legs - sure, she'd tagged along with a patrol earlier that day, but still... Staying in camp didn't feel like an option. Would he get in trouble? Probably. Was it worth it? Sure if he caught something... But that was something for later, aftermath having some fun.

Frostpaw wasn't one who would usually leave camp on their own, knowing the dangers of it far to well, especially when unaccompanied by a warrior, and so having spotting Shadepaw sneak out of camp at such a time made the medicine cat apprentice follow in suit, at first keeping their distance not to disturb the other but as time passed and uneasiness pricked at their fur the apprentice made themselves clear to the other. "Its dangerous to be on your own" she expressed a bit bluntly, keeping the other half of their thoughts out of it. Honestly, Frostpaw only followed Shadepaw because they were worry that she would get hurt or worse, and during leaf-bare that is something she nor Rainstorm needed to stress about some apprentice being mouse-brained enough to go out on their own in the middle of the night. "You realize if something bad happen like a fox attack or an ambush from the other clans while alone could be a death warrant to you?" It was her job to worry, was it not? But it wasn't really their job to lecture the other apprentice on being alone, that should have been left up to her mentor to hassel over being out, and Frostpaw knew if both got caught outside, they're both going to be in trouble. "No, thats up to your mentor to lecture you Shadepaw but I'm going to at least join you to make sure you're safe" they stated a bit flatly, abanoning the lecture. They might as well, could be a chance to find herbs and Frostpaw could potentially make an excuse for the two if anyone asked why they were out without an older cat with them.
