Yeah, this was awkward. And quiet. It was a duo patrol to go check on the rapids, just to make sure "there wasn't anything going on". Of course, Toadfeather assigned them to a patrol that seemed to have no purpose. It seemed to have been a common occurance, maybe for their brother to make sure that Lavendergaze didn't get themselves into any "situations". Walking along the border patrol, they limped behind the fire-colored tabby. They didn't really know too much about Sunstorm, other than his son deserting to MistClan. That event spread through the camp like wildfire during sharing tongues. Still, Lavendergaze didn't dabble into drama and rumors that much. They were too busy just trying to blend into the clan and not get noticed. However, the looming fear of their seizures and visions pointing them to become the next Oracle still scared the warrior more than anything. All eyes would be on them. Still, their curiosity of how the clan stood with the idea of an Oracle was too much for them to bear. "It's, uh, pretty wintry out here, don't you think?" Lavendergaze blurted out, their voice being the only noise in the forest. That was super awkward. "I mean, uh, it's peaceful out here. Yeahhh, I have always loved leaf-bare here in the mountains," they continued. It was true. Seeing the snow on the mountains and watch the snowfall dance along the pine trees deeper in the territory was their favorite. "Maybe Starclan finally sees that we need some peace around here." They simply said, nudging the conversation towards spirituality and, hopefully, the ranks of those that speak to their ancestors. "Do you think Rainstorm has heard anything from them? Frostpaw maybe?" They didn't dare speak about the oracle. Lavendergaze knew that the oracle was a sensitive conversation for some of the cats in the clan, as they believe it led them down the path of recovery after the warrior. Plus, everyone knew that Orchidgaze lost their ability to connect to Starclan. But... were they next?

#s://i~ibb~co/3MN9Xn4/sunstormava~png | Sunstorm, Blinding faith, give me sight. Praise the sun, day and night. Break the fog, dark and light. Life and death, black and white. Warmth and cold, wrong and right. Bliss and pain, health and blight. I feel disparity preparing me to die. |
Sunstorm stood out quite conspicuously in the mountainous winterscape. He was a flame melting the ground as the snow began to thin the nearer they got to the river. The tabby normally did not care much about who his patrol partners were. He did have his favorites, Pigeonscreech, Stoatfang, Ravenheart, to name a few. But as long as he could count on them to keep up and fight to the death to protect their clan, should they have to, Sunstorm was content enough. He knew precious little about Lavendergaze. Mostly that they were Toadfeather's littermate. Sunstorm was skeptical that Lavendergaze could keep pace with him. But Sunstorm did recognize the effort Lavendergaze put into maintaining being a warrior. After their injury, it would be so easy to take the coward's way out and retire early, make the clan use resources that the grey cat wasn't resuppling. But they didn't. That counted for something. Although that did not mean Sunstorm would slow down on their account. "It's, uh, pretty wintry out here, don't you think?" The older warrior did not give the remark a response. Of course it was "wintery." It was Leaf-bare. I mean, uh, it's peaceful out here. Yeahhh, I have always loved leaf-bare here in the mountains…Maybe Starclan finally sees that we need some peace around here."At least they believed in Starclan. It seemed too few of his clanmates openly mentioned Starclan anymore. Were they afraid? Afraid of being seen as "the next Wolfstar?" The notion was utterly ridiculous. Sunstorm still believed in the old ways, and he was not afraid to show or express it. The two tabbies disagreed on the delivery of peace however. "I see Leaf-bare as Starclan's test for us. As resources dwindle it is all too easy to blame Starclan for 'taking away' when we should be lucky they bless us with food at all." The tom bellowed over his shoulder. He was mindful of the potential ice as the two cats approached the crest of higher ground, the rapids more calm in the wintertime due to the frozen spots upstream keeping the water from flowing as freely and quickly as it might in the warmer months. "Do you think Rainstorm has heard anything from them? Frostpaw maybe?" "If they have, they have shared nothing with us." He stopped as his toes reached the rocks. "Do they even speak to Starclan at all if they do not tell us their messages freely?" The larger tabby scoffed, flicking his tail in annoyance. Perhaps whatever visions they did have they shared with solely Mushroomstar. But that was not the way, the old way, the correct way - keeping Starclan's voices from the clan proper.

Well, Sunstorm was all that Lavendergaze would have imagined he would be. All the rumors about the strict alignment of the ginger tom and his ideals seem to be true. The death of Nightfall happened when the gray cat was still young, when they still thought the world of Toadfeather. They never got to see the calmer side of Sunstorm that was long forgotten. Long buried alongside his brother. Lavendergaze could tell that something was off with the tom when they mentioned StarClan. Had they made a mistake? What if Sunstorm didn't believe in StarClan anymore, like so many others. The large tabby knew that they had to be careful who they asked and what they asked of other cats. Their social awkwardness didn't help. They weren't a powerful and persuasive speaker like Toadfeather, they were the opposite. But once Sunstorm spoke, a sigh of relief could be seen on their thick fur. The ginger tabby's approach to StarClan's point of view was... harsh. But, Lavendergaze couldn't see a flaw in the logic of thinking. "I didn't think about it that way," they simply said at first, making sure to keep their strides even with their patrol partner. They never wanted to be seen as weak, due to their back legs. "But StarClan can't hold a grudge forever, though, right? I mean, our kin are up there alongside those of the other clans. If they wanted to destroy us, they would have a long time ago," they simply mewed, keeping their head low while looking forward. Was Wolfstar up there, vouching for his clan? Again, they listened to the older clan member. Time to press their luck. "I guess so. I think it would ease the minds of everyone's minds if they shared if Starclan has spoken to them." A pause, with their eyes naturally glancing toward the Moonpool. They had seen Rainstorm and Frostpaw leave to go there once. "And if only [ex-oracle] could speak with StarClan again."A sensitive subject, Lavendergaze knew that they were possibly pushing into uncharted territory. If they were lucky, they would just come out of this situation with his spit from the ginger tabby hissing at the mention of the Oracle. However, the gray tabby would take their chances. A possible ally was above all else, even with repercussions after.
