dustfern
Dustfern is a former RidgeClan cat and current barn cat, as well as [Sage]’s best friend and potential love interest. She is also [Ospreytalon]’s littermate. This ad is mostly just suggestions and not requirements. Almost everything about her is up to her adopter, including her name and appearance, though she must be 40 moons old. Her history is also up to her adopter, except for the fact that she left RidgeClan after her sister died, and how she met Sage is also set in stone.
She was born in RidgeClan to her mother, Mossfern, and her father, Smokepatch, alongside four siblings. Dustkit was especially close to her sister, Cloudkit, but she also got along with her other sister, Shadekit, and her brother, Badgerkit Her relationship with her other brother, Littlekit, was complicated since he spent most of his time in the medicine cat den, battling his poor health, and she often treated him like he was as delicate as a paper-thin flower petal. Dustkit and Cloudkit, however, were attached at the hip. They knew each other better than they knew themselves and could always be found together.
Dustpaw chose to become a warrior instead of a guardian and she excelled in combat training, enough so that when she was paired with Littlepaw during sessions, she still defeated him while fighting half-heartedly. She even managed to beat Badgerpaw and Shadepaw in mock battles, but Cloudpaw was a different story. They knew one another so well, including which techniques the other would use next, and were so evenly matched that neither one of them ever claimed victory over the other. Their training sessions always ended in draws, but when they were fighting together, as a team, they were unstoppable.
Dustfern graduated alongside Cloudpelt, Shadetail, and Badgerheart. Littlepaw remained in the apprentice den for a bit longer to complete his guardian training, which didn’t help Dustfern see him as anything besides frail. When Cloudpelt took a mate, Dustfern was thrilled, and a few moons later, when Cloudpelt announced she was expecting, Dustfern was overjoyed. Unfortunately, neither Cloudpelt or her kits survived the birth. Dustfern couldn’t stay in RidgeClan where she had so many memories of her sister, made bittersweet by Cloudpelt’s death, and so she ran away from the valley.
Eventually, Dustfern ran into some trouble she couldn’t escape, possibly a predator or even a pack of rogues, and she was left for dead. Sage’s group, The Syndicate, found her and took her prisoner, allowing their healer to treat her. Dustfern slowly recovered, regaining consciousness over a few days, unknowingly having spoken of RidgeClan and her family while she wasn’t aware of what she was saying. Sage was tasked with learning more about Dustfern’s group and she tried to do so by earning her trust. However, Dustfern wasn’t willing to share anything about the valley.
Sage and Dustfern eventually came to see the good in each other’s hearts, to the point where Dustfern told her a bit about her kin and Sage revealed that The Syndicate would probably kill Dustfern soon, whether she gave up information about her group or not. After Sage killed The Syndicate’s healer, she and Dustfern fled. They finally told each other about their pasts in the time they traveled together, becoming closer than ever. They soon found the valley Dustfern grew up in and made their home with the barn cats.
They try their best to stay out of the conflict between the clanless and clan cats, and just focus on living in peace, but sometimes, it’s difficult not to get involved, especially since Dustfern was raised in a clan. Sage is more neutral in the matter while Dustfern tends to side with the clans, which they occasionally argue about, but they always make up before the day’s over. It’s entirely possible that feelings have developed or will develop between the two of them.
Part of Dustfern wants to reunite with her family in RidgeClan, but she’s also incredibly nervous about it. Would they even welcome her back? Would they forgive her for leaving? Would Sage follow her to RidgeClan if she decided to rejoin it? She may not know yet that there was a war or that her mother, Mossfern, and one of her brothers, Badgerheart, died in it, but she might stumble upon Littlehawk - now Ospreytalon - one day and catch up on what she’s missed.
